Trinity Site

Another interesting place we encountered along our route today was the Trinity Site. Those interested in history know the Trinity Site to be the location of original atomic blast. The technology responsible for aiding in the end of World War II was put to the test here in this desolate stretch of the Chihuahuan desert.

The center site of the first nuclear detonation is only open twice a year, once in April and once in October. Those who manage to fight the crowds and arrive early enough for entry to the Trinity site on those two Saturdays can view the obelisk and many piles of trinite, the green glass like rock created by the blast. Ground zero is typically otherwise off limits to civilians due to a high amount of residual radiation.
