"Killing Time" by Richard F. Yates
Sitting in the coffee shop / lobby extention of the Hilton Hotel near the SEA-TAC airport. I successfully escorted my wife to the conference area for her optical seminar, earlier this morning, and then spent almost a million bucks on a coffee and chewy, soggy breakfast sandwich. (Actually, it was only $17 bucks---but that's still OUTRAGEOUS for a breakfast, if you ask me...) (I admit to being old enough to remember when coffee was 10 cents and a sandwich was a dollar....)
NOW, I play the waiting game. Mariah says her last class either starts or ends at 3:00 P.M. That gives me about six or seven hours to entertain myself...
Could you do it?
I brought some reclaimed cardboard and Sharpies for drawing, a notebook for writing in, my iPod for listening to tunes (instead of worrying about the SQEAK of the terror-bird I thought I heard earlier---which I now think might have been the revolving door spinning around and not a pterosaur about to swoop down and kill us all), two books, a comic, and my Kindle... I SHOULD be able to knock out a few hours with that stuff...
Actually, considering I've been parked in this seat since about 7:00 A.M., chewing on my breakfast and reading a book about Jack Parsons, I think I'm doing pretty good. Two hours down in a blink. AND I got one fun drawing out of it already...
I might check in again in a while, if I write or draw anything else that needs to be shared right away! Until then...

I did it... once 11h23m on an airport in madrid spain, no money, no ipad, nothing to read or scribble... sleeping impossible. That was my longest day ever for now!
Wow.... At least I had books to read, tunes to listen to, and scribbling materials. Eleven hours with nothing to do sounds a bit unpleasant!

Maybe play that one in your iPod. Just don't eye any little girls with malintent!
Ha! I still have the record, but I think "Living in the Past" is the only Tull on my machine at the moment! (Still---"Aqualung" does seem hotel lobby appropriate!)
