Visit the Azores #14: Hidden waterfall in the woods (EN/GER/FR)

in #travel5 years ago

After our little detour at the beautiful viewpoint , we finally arrive at Faial da Terra. There begins our today's hike.

SM4_1.jpgStarting point of the hike

The first 10 minutes lead through the small village and are quite unspectacular. But after about 1 kilometer, you reach a beautiful path that leads into the dense forest. It was quite humid, so that both of us had the feeling that we were more in tropical Asia than on a European island.

SM4_2.jpgNice trail in the woods

As soon as we are a few meters in the forest, we met this pretty lady. With loud meow she asks for caresses and expects our full attention.

SM4_3.jpgI. Want. To. Be. Stroked.

We ask ourselves whether she stays here all day and does that with every hiker who comes through here – probably yes ;-) . After a few minutes of caressing, we continue walking and leave the moderately satisfied cat behind. We finally have a goal to reach today!
We reach our destination after about 2 hours hike: the waterfall Salto do Prego falls majestically in the middle of the forest into a small lake.

SM4_8.jpgSalto do Prego

After a long break (of course with sandwiches ;-) ) we continue towards the way back. Overall, the hike takes 3 hours and is moderately exhausting. The great trial and the landscapes are definitely worth the effort!

Back at the car, we drive to the Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes.
This park is located directly on the roadside and consists of several waterfalls, countless hydrangea bushes and lovingly created ponds.

SM4_6.jpgGorgeous flowering hydrangeas

SM4_7.jpgAnd another waterfall along the way

In the evening, we make ourselves comfortable in the little house and let the day pass review - we have never seen so many waterfalls in one day!

The essential:

  • Hike Faial da Terra - Salto do Prego: approx. 3 hours with breaks
  • Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes* – definitely worth it!

Versteckter Wasserfall im Wald

SM4_4.jpg
Nach unserem kleinen Abstecher beim wunderschönen Aussichtspunkt kommen wir schließlich in Faial da Terra an. Dort beginnt unsere heutige Wanderung.

SM4_8.jpgSalto do Prego

  • Wanderung Faial da Terra - Salto do Prego: ca. 3 Stunden inkl. Pausen

SM4_3.jpgJe. Veux. Qu’on. Me. Caresse.

SM4_8.jpgSalto do Prego

L’essentiel:

  • Randonné Faial da Terra - Salto do Prego: environ 3 heures avec pauses

The lady cat is beautiful but the landscapes of the Natural Park left me breathless. It worth too much the previous hike 💚 Definitely that is a place I would love to visit.
