The State Historical Museum and Nikolskaya Tower in Moscow

Can there be too many Red Square photos? I'm in Scotland for the next 6 weeks which means I'm missing my beloved Moscow blossom in the spring sunshine, and this gets me down because it was a very long winter. With this in mind, I'll be uploading more photos from Moscow that I've yet to upload to steemit. I feel extremely lucky that Russia has become a second home for me after meeting Victoria two years ago. Earlier this year we got engaged while in Latvia and in July we are expecting our first child together, it's a nice period in our lives.

As for the above photos, Nikolskaya (Никольская) connects the great man made wonders of Red Square with the children's mall on Lubyanka Square. The street dates to the 1500's and is one of the oldest in Moscow. It takes its name from the Greek Monastery of St. Nicholas which is first mentioned in records of 1390, the remains of which can be seen at No. 11. The south side of Nikolskaya is dominated by the beautiful GUM department store which also forms part of the Red Square. The shopping mall dates back to 1893 and you can find traditional comfort food in Soviet-style cafeterias amongst European designer stores. It offers the perfect antidote to tourists looking to escape the harsh winter elements while still being able to enjoy the historical centre.
