Difficulties Having Halal Resources in Philippines, especially for Muslim Travellers...

Hi! My fellow Steemians, #Steemgiggers, and #Uloggers!

Yesterday I made a post in #Steemgigs.org about [Source] “I will Give Free Travel Guide In Metro Manila For Traveller Looking For Halal Foods...” because I want to help and guide our brothers and sisters to find the halal foods resources in Manila if they will plan to visit because staying and travelling to a small percentage of Muslim population will not be easy to look for Halal foods.

Although I am almost three years converted to Islam, staying in Philippines for me is not easy to look for a Halal restaurants and foods resources.

As a Muslim, we can only take and eat a Halal foods and drinks.

What is Halal?

Halal also spelled hallal or halaal, refers to what is “permissible” or lawful in traditional Islamic law. It is frequently applied to permissible food and drinks [Source]Wikipedia “Islam in the Philippines”

I was converted to Islam on year 2015 in Pahang, Malaysia and I stayed there for almost two years after I converted. Malaysia is a Muslim country that’s why it was not difficult for me to adjust and adapt from changes because you can find Halal foods and drinks anywhere.

That’s why when I get back here in Philippines, it was really difficult for me to adjust and look for Halal resources.

Everytime my husband comes here in Manila, we used to stay in a hotel or condominium apartment to the nearest Halal restaurants.

Year 2016, first time he came here in Philippines, it was really difficult for me to look for a place to stay because I was newly converted to Islam also and I haven’t explore yet where to find Halal foods or restaurants in Manila.

At first, we stayed in Solaire Resort and Casino, we thought they serve Halal foods but they don’t. The hotel is located at Aseana Avenue, Parañaque, Metro Manila, it is near to the International airport and SM Mall of Asia where I found the Martabak Café, a Halal restaurant.

It is a casual dining restaurant and they serve Malaysian and Indonesian Cuisine at very affordable price, approximately 600.00-1000.00 php or 12.00-20.00 usd for two persons.

We stayed only for one night and one day in Solaire because they don’t serve halal foods, the room is costly but not worthy for us because we can’t get the right food for us, so I checked online the nearest hotel that has halal restaurant and I found the Heritage hotel. I called first the hotel before we book there and confirmed they have a halal reataurant.

We checked-in to The Heritage Hotel Manila next day because the Heritage Hotel’s Riviera Cafe serves halal and it is only near from Solaire and to the airport, it is located at Roxas Boulevard corner EDSA Pasay, Manila.

My parents come over for dinner to join us because we have to fly back to Malaysia on the next day. For me, the food was quite costly, we had a buffet for 5 adults and 2 children but we billed out amounting to 8.500 php or 170.00 usd.

Next day, we were in NAIA Terminal 3 to fly back to Malaysia. We are looking for a place to eat in the airport while waiting for the check-in counter to open, but sad to say we cannot find halal restaurant.

My husband talked to McDonald’s manager and asked if they served halal foods but sad to say they don’t. We asked if there’s any halal restaurant in the airport but the manager said, as far as he knows, there is no halal restaurant in the airport.

We just had some cakes and juices while waiting for our flight. My husband really sad, he said that is the reason he can’t stay longer here in Philippines... because lack of halal resources

Then... Year 2016, second time my husband visited here in Philippines. I became smart already that time and I already researched for the better place to stay nearest to the halal restaurants and International airport.

We stayed in Birch Tower Condominium at Malate, Manila and we got the apartment with balcony for only 3.500 php or 70.00 usd only per night. There are many halal restaurants inside and outside the Robinson’s Mall which is only walking distance from the condominium.

Our favorite restaurant is Al-Sham Middle East Cuisine, It was my first time to eat there. They serve a Halal, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian Cuisine. Most of the guests are Arabs, Indian and Turkish.

Please see link to see my two entries on Juliank’s #foodphotography for the food we ordered Al-Sham Middle East Cuisine, and Halal Mediterranean Cuisine

The food cost for two persons is approximately 1.300-1.500 php or 26.00-30.00 usd.

On the second visit of my husband here in Philippines, we save alot unlike last time that we stayed in Solaire and Heritage just because we can’t find the nearest halal restaurant.

Lack of halal food discourages Muslim tourists in Manila that’s why it is very important that our country will also give some considerations to our Muslim visitors to their religious beliefs.

It is good you have researched so you could help others too

Good that you found Halal restos sis..

Ganun pala mga muslim sis, now I know.
