Yaksa-Jeon in the Opposite Side of Paradise Hall in Tongdo-sa Temple, KoreasteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel6 years ago

There was an Yaksa-jeon hall standing at the right of Yeongsan-jeon posted in previous.
Yaksa-jeon is the hall for serving the Bodhisattva of the Medicine.

In my guess, the reason why they set up the Yaksa-jeon is something related to the desire of ordinary people. Most ordinary people had not other means except praying for when they were ill.

The arrangement of the Yaksa-jeon and the paradise hall seemed intentional thinking next steps after the fatal disease.
People used to visit the temple for curing disease and praying for entering into the paradise after the death.

The Yaksa-joen had been built in late Goryeo dynasty, but it was said to be rebuilt in 18 C.
So this building also seemed to have the traces of the architectural tradition of Goryeo dynasty.

Yeongsan-jeon and Yaksa-jeon have its own stone ornaments in front of the buildings.
Each stone ornaments have its meaning relating to the halls

Finally I’d like to show the bottom of the pillars of Yaksa-jeon.
The pillars seemed to be repaired.

The cornerstones were typical style of Goryeo dynasty.
The upper surface of the cornerstone was very well crafted.

Then the bottom of the pillars were already eroded.

@slowwalker,
This is the first time I heard about this type of building! Yeah ordinary people prayed when they got illnesses! It's a great photography and a valuable history of your recent visit!

Cheers~

Thank you so much for your comment

@slowwalker, I am always surprised that the mound is the architectural stonemason of architects. I was not able to learn Korean architectural styles to stay here, but with your support, my heart attracted Korean culture. The information and photographs you provided are extremely beautiful. Paradise Hall in Tongdo-sa Temple seriously amazing creativity.

Thank you so much

This temple has it self treasures, but maintain it's not good. last few picture to much terrible. sad feel to it.

Wow.. Sooo lovely photoshoot.. I love your photography...my dear friend slowwalker

Excellent approach to repair. Sometimes just enough of a small missing thing is enough, and then everything will fall into place.

Отличный подход к ремонту. Порой бывает достаточно всего лишь меленькой недостающей вещи, и тогда, все становиться на свои места.

The architecture of the ancient times are sure one of a kind and the stones were kinda unique as well.

While as for the pillar erosion of the pillars won't it be dangerous ?

Wow in the middle part of the pillar there are small stones and that holds the top .. every part of this temple and the places that are nearby are very well made, the stones are very well carved look great for the amount of years that has.

Was it used as a hospital at that time? I mean to say was they went there to pray God to cure them, or to pray God for afterlife life.
Which one is right. By the way architecturaly the temple is in very bad condition. Government must have to look after it.
Nice photography and awesome article. Nice to read it.

People prayed to cure.
Thank you

rocks and wooden crafts are so nice... this temple looks really amazing, great job bro:)

Thank you so much
