The Spirit of Wat Sri Chum

I vowed to go back to Wat Sri Chum in Lampang, Thailand because they were under heavy renovations during my last visit. They were remodeling the viharn (assembly hall) which unfortunately burned down in 1992 and left no remains of the original design from 1901. This beautiful Burmese style temple gets its name from the Lanna word for Boddhi tree. This temple of fine arts is still surrounded by sacred Boddhi trees to this day.

We were able to admire the amazing roof of the original main hall.

It contained a gorgeous Burmese style statue of Buddha with a few art designs on the walls and ceiling. This historic building was bare but surrounded by a line of bells (also under renovations) which I also vowed to go back and ring.

Before leaving we started a conversation with one of the workers remodeling the viharn and she gave us a few historical facts of about the temple. She mainly spoke of the paintings and art designs in the viharn but we were unable to enter. She directed us to a statue of Guan Yin which was an impressive sculpture of fine art. The temple's small museum-like displays were also under reconstruction so I made it a point to vow to return and give this temple a proper great deed.

i love thailand.. hope to came soon again. this temple was not on my travel route. maybe next time.
