Myanmar Series 01

in #travel6 years ago

Here is my new Series. From the cold of the Antarctic to the warmth of Myanmar. This is one of my most favorite countries in the world. The people are wonderful, the food is amazing and the Sights are impressive.

Let's start with the wonderful "Sand paintings". A special Myanmar Art Style that simulates a mural on a piece of linen. The foundation of the painting is a mix of sand and binding materials, that keep it very flexible, yet at the same time have the look and feel Sandstone.

Painters paint by hand the motives of ancient, holy temple pictures as well as decorative motives of old lacquer boxes. All of them are very beautiful and quite cheap to buy. Here you can see some of the artists at work. Most are from families who have done this for generations.

A good spot to buy these is in Bagan, right I front of the temples. Try to stay away from tourist shops and rather go for the family owned businesses. They have better prices and better quality. If you are in Bagan for several days, take your time to compare the quality and artistic skill of several of these families, to get the best choice.
