In this blog post, we tell you which places are a must-visit in Bali, where to stay in Bali and approximately how many days you should spend at each place! Where to stay in Bali itinerary

You will be arriving at Bali Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport. Go through the immigration and get a 30-day visa-free stamp in your passport and you are all set to go. Tropical heat and a pleasant breeze will caress your skin as you head to the Taxi. Bali adventure awaits!

Kuta - 2 days

Kuta is the closest place from the airport and most likely you will want to start with this small city as an introduction to the island. It is very popular with Australian tourists so the party is always kicking hard. In Kuta region, the beaches are quite crowded, but for your first days and beating the jetlag it's perfect. If you like going out there is a great place - Sky Garden, where you get an all you can eat buffet and all you can drink from 5 pm to 9 pm for 115 000 IDR, which is roughly $ 9. The place has 4 floors and is located right in the town center! A great place to go out. We spent so many evening there, mostly because of the buffet, as it was so affordable.

Another pub you can head to for super cheap drinks is Alley Cats, where you can get the infamous double-double for 20 000 IDR. Go ahead and try it, it is a local spirit mixed with an energy drink. These places do attract a younger crowd, so if you are not really into backpacking and party life, just spend your time around the beach and getting a massage for 80 000 IDR ( $ 6).

If you are traveling with kids or just really love water parks, you have to visit WaterBom Bali. It is the biggest water park in Asia, or at least they say so. It is huge and it is fun. The ticket will set you back $ 25, but they often have a 1+1 deal, so two for the same price. We are not really adrenaline chasers, but we just gave it a try because of the deal.

As we already mentioned, Kuta is very touristy, so try to spend as little time there as you can to get out and explore other beautiful places Bali has to offer.

Uluwatu - 2 days

Cliff viewpoints around Uluwatu

Uluwatu is such a peaceful place and might be one of the most beautiful spots in Bali. You can stay at any of the accommodations along the beach, there are so many options to choose from. It all depends on your budget, but private rooms start from $ 8. Look at all the offers on Booking.com and choose what suits your budget. Uluwatu temple visit is a must! You have to dress accordingly, so no shorts or short sleeves allowed. The whole temple complex, its parks, and views are amazing. Come early to get the best photos and avoid the midday heat. The entrance fee is only 30 000 IDR, so less than $ 2. Be aware of the monkeys in the forest, they might steal your stuff!

Suluban Uluwatu Beach is another amazing place you can spend hours exploring. Just rent a motorbike for a day to get around and follow the maps or ask a taxi driver to take you. This beach is very popular amongst surfers because of the great waves. You can spend the time in either of the cafes above the beach or wander through the cliffs and try to find some hidden spots. When the tide is low you can walk far inside between the cliffs, yet when the tide is high it might cover the stairs down to the beach.

Canggu - 3 days

When considering where to stay in Bali, consider Canggu. It is another great place if you love to surf. If not, there are so many must-visit places around. You can spend a day around the fancy Semynjak region, doing shopping and indulging in treats the cool cafes have to offer. While you are in Canggu you have to visit Tanah Lot. It is a beautiful Balinese Hindu temple where local people make offerings every morning and from time to time they hold huge religious celebrations here. It is a very common sunset watching spot as well so it might get crowded in the evening.

Old Mans is a great beachfront bar with a happy hour every day. all the surfers and travelers meet there to share their stories. Apart from that, there are many very atmospheric beach restaurants and bars, and they are not as packed as the ones in Kuta. Thus, Canggu offers a very relaxed vibe and due to its proximity to all the attractions in Bali, many people choose to stay in Canggu instead of Kuta.

Sanur - 2 days

Staying in Sanur is a must if you plan to go to Nusa Penida. We would highly recommend visiting Nusa Penida, which is only 30 minutes away from Sanur, Bali coast. The best way to do that is to stay overnight in Sanur. The location itself has some nice beaches, a whistling market, and a handful of nice cafes. It is a former fishing village so Sanur has its own magical ambiance. We would recommend spending a night before your trip to Nusa Penida in Sanur, and one night on Nusa Penida island. However, if you are tight on time you can also squeeze in a daytrip to Nusa Penida. If you feel like going out Casablanca will be your best bet in Sanur. It has live music, pub-like atmosphere, and food. It is by far the best place to hang out in the evening around Sanur.

Candidasa - 1 day

Candidasa is one of the remoter areas of Bali. However, it has so many beautiful sights around it, that it is very convenient to spend at least one night in Candidasa. It is rich in traditional Balinese arts and due to Candidasa's remote location, you can have a tranquil time enjoying the culture.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall is absolutely stunning and might be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali. You should hire a motorbike to get there and be ready to get wet as you will have to walk through a shallow water. To make some beautiful pictures you will have to stand close to the waterfall so getting soaking wet guaranteed, but have to do it for those Instagram pictures! Temple Of Lempuyang Luhur, is the highlight of the region. This place is home to the famous arch everyone takes pictures at while in Bali! This is the arch that frames mount Agung so beautifully! It is not only the arch but the whole temple complex that is worth a visit.

Ujung Water Palace is yet another magical place in the region. This beautiful old complex consists of buildings on several water pools with a beautiful mount Agung backdrop. The whole water garden complex has served several purposes including being a bathing place for the royalties and a punishment place for the people conducting witchcraft.

Ubud - 4 days

By far our favorite location in Bali is Ubud. When you plan where to stay in Bali, you have to stay in Ubud at least for 3 nights! Ubud is home to the real Balinese culture. The cheapest Balinese massages and Spa's are here along with the most expensive jungle retreats. The vibe is so laid back here and life here has a completely different rhythm.

Ulun Danu Bratan Temple is 45 minutes away from Ubud and is one of the most popular temples in Bali. It is crowded day in and day out so make sure you come early to peacefully absorb the magic of this place. Otherwise, sunset also is a beautiful time to take some memorable photos. Entrance fee is 50 000 IDR (less than $4) and the views on the way are beautiful as well.

Lake Buyan is located close to Ulun Banu Bratan temple and is a great place to enjoy the cool weather and take some beautiful pictures from viewpoints built on the side of the road. If you are heading to the Bratan temple just include Lake Buyan as a short stop on the way.

Rice terraces and Coffee plantations

Tegallalang Rice Terraces and Coffee plantations are two other great sights not to be missed. We believe that rice terraces are the most visited spot in Ubud and no one wonders why. The lush terraces have many levels and you can climb up and down exploring all around. Be aware that it is very slippery when rainy and that you have to carry some coins for donations as you stroll through. However, Coffee plantations you can visit for free and even sample the local coffees free of charge. In addition to that, you will be able to see charming Luwaks that digest the coffee to give it its unique and expensive taste.

Worthy mentions

Banyuwedang

Banyuwedang province is located far across the Bali island away from the main tourist spots. However, if that is what you are looking for - blending in with the locals, you are looking the right direction. This place is famous for snorkeling and hot springs in the region. It is close to Gilimanuk, where people board the ferry across to Java, thus if you are heading that way you can make a one night stop in Banyuwedang.

Lovina

Lovina attracts tourists mainly because of dolphin watching activities. Also, this province is famous for its unusual black sand beaches. Previously mentioned hot springs can be reached from either Lovina or Banyuwedang. Thus, you are free to chose to stay in either one of the places. The road across Bali island to Lovina takes you through lush rice fields and up into hills where several lakes are to be found. Surprisingly it even gets cold along the way across the island due to the altitude changes. We crossed the whole island on a motorbike from one side to the other in around 3 hours and the views were purely magical. We stopped several times to take beautiful photos of the lakes and temples we saw on the way.

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is a luxury region in Bali, mostly for the high-end vacationers. However, the beaches are still beautiful so it is worth to take a half day trip here. The most important place to see is the Waterblow. It is a point where the water rushes against the cliffs, so when the waves are strong getting soaking wet is guaranteed! It is quite a fun place and the whole park area is nice for a picknick or just a relaxing walk.

Nusa Lembongan

If there is a single honeymooners paradise Nusa Lembongan must be it. It is located off the Bali coast so the island is very serene and secluded. If you want to see the crystal clear waters without going to Lombok or Gili’s, because of the lack of time - this is the place. The beaches are so beautiful and the water so clear that you have to see it to believe it. Nusa Lembongan is also one of the less visited places in Bali, which provides for that long sought after authenticity.

I remember my last trip in Bali through you articles. I am saying big thanks for your nice articles. I went in Bali for 9 days trip and enjoyed lots. Nusa dua is also nice place.

Aww, it makes us feel great that you remembered your last trip to Bali because of us!! :))) Nusa Dua is amazing, you are absolutely right!!

Thanks again for your good reply.

Such a comprehensive and detailed post about Bali. Like we told you, still haven't been, but obviously it attracts us!

Thank youuu!! Guys, but be careful ,remember, we told you, that you might be immersed in the instagrammer social influenecer super cool youtuber only expensive cafes vibe! hahah! But to be honest, there are so many gorgeous places apart from those overrated cafes everyone just hangs out! Bali is all about nature! (h)

Ah true! But you know we're more the type to get out in the nature and explore! Hopefully, they did not put a super duper Instagrammer social influencer and YouTube vlogger price on that. Nature is meant to be FREE! Yet, we might pop into one of those cafes.... we'll see when and once we get there :)
