Robot Restaurant Tokyo Japan - What a TRIP!!

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

How's it going Steemers??

I would like to share some photos and words from my experience at the robot restaurant in Tokyo, Japan!

Now the robot restaurant has been on my list for a while now. So when I spent my birthday in Shinjuku, Tokyo we had to see this show!

So dispite the name Robot Restaurant there is no actual robots here and it's not really a restaurant. Unless you class a box of popcorn dinner.

So WTF is the robot restaurant? I hear you ask.

Well it's a two hour psychodelic sensory overload. Think epileptic light show, choreographed dance routines with laser lights, Japanese pop music
and the most out of this world costumes stage show extravaganza!

Now after a couple of 9% alcohol Strong New lemoande drinks it all made sense at the time. But looking back on it... What the fuck was this show all about??

Apart from being given light sticks at our seats and fancy cocktails served in light bulbs this set the standard of confusion for the following two hours.

Let's recap the show with some photos. And we will try and peice what this show was all about.

The show starts off with a drumming routine which is pretty impressive.

It quickly gets crazy as more drummers enter the stage.

The drummers rigs move all around the stage as they bang out some classic Japanese music.

Things seem to be quite normal right now, then all of a sudden things start to get weird...

Behind the drummers in comes this Cyclops.

Which confronts this weird bird looking thing. There is another drummer ontop smashing out a sweet solo.

They get moved on with the quickness by this demon with a chariot in tow with a chick singing on top.

Behind that was some strange looking Lego guys dancing to the music.

These Lego guys clear the stage then out comes this rhinoceros beetle and a futuristic robot looking guy. Then the battle begins.

The robot guy kicked the shit out of the beetle with some lasers. As he was claiming victory, out of nowhere this panda entered the arena and handed out a swift beating to the robot guy.

The robot guy called for re-enforcements but the panda had the final boss on his side and he was pissed! He came in charging and cleaned the house. The panda's claimed victory.

Next up this lobster entered the ring.

Followed by this frog.

They went toe to toe and it was very fun to watch. Then those pesky robot guys jumped into the fight.

Now my favourite part of the show happened.. Out of nowhere Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles entered the ring. Flying in on this weird cicada looking insect. But Raphael was packing a gun and opened fire on all the robot guys.

Once the stage was cleared the final robot guy boss entered the arena on one side. On the other was this crazy snake that shot smoke from his mouth.

The robot shoots the snake with lasers.

But somehow the snake deflects the lasers and grabs the chick in his mouth.

The snake claims victory as the boss fight is over. But there was still one fight left.... This robotic triceratops entered the arena.

To have a laser beam show down with this dragon!

It was a battle of epic proportions complete with pyrotechnics. In the end the triceratops claimed victory. At this point we were getting a bit drunk, rowdy and having a great time!

Once the arena was cleared the whole place turned into a dance boogie marathon hosted by these Daft Punk looking guys.

The lasers were in full effect and then all the back up dancers entered the stage.

There were even guys cutting laps on these one wheel motorcycles.

The beats were pumping! Two step stomp dance moves with epileptic fit enducing laser light show was in full swing.

Then they calmed the tune down and the show ended on this under water theme with big robots and giant dolls.

As the show wrapped up with everyone in the crowd clapping along to the song. Everyone on stage danced and waved, it was hard to work out what was actually happening..

The guys dancing in the fish costumes were awesome haha.

As the show came to a close we were left looking at each other saying WTF did we just witness???

Looking back at all of this I don't think there is an actual story line through out the show. It was like the creators of this show had amazing costume and model designers at their beck and call. From there their acid induced show concepts went straight into production.

Was it weird??? YES
But it was definitely entertaining!
And to make it more fun I'm sure you can score some acid from the street hustlers out side that are on every corner of Shinjuku.

If you plan on going, book in advance online for a discount. Tickets were 8000 yen

There are four shows a night and I highly recommend getting yourself dinner before you go to this "restaurant"

They must change the show up every six months or so, to keep it new.

Definitely worth checking out!

Thanks for stopping by
Happy travels 😁
