Atardecer en Castel dell’Ovo // Sunset in Castel dell'Ovo

Hay un castillo precioso y enigmático encaramado en un islote del golfo de Nápoles. Parece el castillo maléfico de un cuento de hadas, rodeado de magia.

Me recuerda mucho a un castillo de la serie Juego de Tronos. En concreto al Castillo Pyke de las Islas de Hierro.

Este castillo napolitano, se encuentra encaramado en un islote rocoso, solo comunicado por un puente. En su tiempo, debió ser una fortaleza inexpugnable.

Tiene una posición estratégica. No es extraño que los romanos, tras conquistar Napoles, fortificaran este castillo pues desde él se controla todo el golfo.

Además de sus utilidades bélicas, también ha sido utilizado, a lo largo de la historia, como carcel, palacio real o custodia del tesoro real.

De hecho, el último emperador romano de occidente (Romulo Augusto) fue encerrado en este fortín.

Los normandos en 1128 reconstruyeron el castillo y le dieron su forma actual, habitándolo incluso los reyes y aquí también depositaron su tesoro.

Castel dell’Ovo se puede visitar y apreciar la majestuosidad de la fortaleza y la terraza con cañones. Junto a el se encuentra el puerto de pescadores donde hay interesantes lugares donde comer apaciblemente. Nosotros cenamos la última noche y muy bien, por cierto.

El nombre del Castel dell’Ovo proviene de una antigua leyenda napolitana. Dicen que Virgilio escondió un huevo mágico en los cimientos de este castillo. Dicho amuleto supuestamente tiene la facultad de proteger a Nápoles. Sin el huevo, irremediable, los napolitanos sufrirán una gran catástrofe.

There is a beautiful and enigmatic castle perched on an islet of the Gulf of Naples. It looks like the evil castle of a fairy tale, surrounded by magic.

It reminds me a lot of a castle in the Game of Thrones series. In particular to the Pyke Castle of the Iron Islands.

This Neapolitan castle, is perched on a rocky islet, only communicated by a bridge. In its time, it must have been an impregnable fortress.
It has a strategic position. It is not strange that the Romans, after conquering Naples, fortified this castle because from it the entire gulf is controlled.

In addition to its war profits, it has also been used, throughout history, as a jail, royal palace or custody of the royal treasury.

In fact, the last Roman emperor of the West (Romulo Augusto) was locked in this fort.

Castel dell'Ovo you can visit and appreciate the majesty of the fortress and the terrace with canyons. Next to it is the fishing port where there are interesting places to eat peacefully. We had dinner the last night.

Es maravilloso pasear por esta zona cuando atardece. En el mar frente al castillo se puede ver recortada la silueta del Vesubio. Tan cercano e imponente, no me extraña en absoluto que los griegos y los romanos lo consideraran un lugar sagrado dedicado a Hércules.

Esta colina de dos lomas, que parece incluso proteger la ciudad, es en realidad un monstruo latente destructivo que espera su oportunidad letal.

Parece mentira que esta montaña cercana, aparentemente inofensiva, pueda ser tan peligrosa.

Viendo su silueta, me vino a la mente el horror y el sufrimiento de los romanos cuando entró en erupción en el año 79 d.c. Una lengua de lava sepultó a Herculano y una nube de ceniza volcánica cubrió completamente a Pompeya. Ambas quedaron arrasadas y borradas literalmente del mapa. Dos ciudades olvidadas, congeladas en el tiempo.

Ahora me viene su recuerdo cuando acaba de suceder la erupción letal del Volcán de Fuego en Guatemala. Como en Pompeya, una nube de material piroclástico rápidamente destruyó y ocultó la ciudad.

It is wonderful to walk through this area when it gets dark. On the sea in front of the castle you can see the silhouette of Vesuvius cut out.

So close and imposing, it does not surprise me at all that the Greeks and the Romans considered it a sacred place dedicated to Hercules.

It seems incredible that this nearby, seemingly harmless mountain can be so dangerous.

En el Golfo de Nápoles es muy bonito el atardecer. Me gustó muchísimo ver los cambios de color del mar, del cielo y de las nubes.

El mar adquirió colores violetas y plateados, además ese día estaba muy tranquilo. El mar parecía un espejo.

Antes de ocultarse el sol, la parte mas alta del Vesubio se mantuvo iluminada por los últimos rayos rojizos, mientras que la zona mas baja estaba envuelta en sombras azuladas.

La vía Partenope al atardecer se convierte en un lugar de paseo romántico o de gente corriendo, caminando o con bicicletas. También pasean los padres con los carritos de bebe o las pequeñas bicicletas de los chavales. Dentro del caos de Nápoles, se convierte en un paseo peatonal amplio, en un lugar idílico.

Tras el paseo tuvimos una cena en el restaurante Antonio & Antonio, que os lo recomiendo. Pude comer Queso de Búfala con pomodorinos. Me encantó aunque, he de decir, que el queso era demasiado grande.

In the Gulf of Naples the sunset is very beautiful.
I really liked seeing the changes in the color of the sea, the sky and the clouds.

The sea acquired violet and silver colors, also that day was very calm. The sea looked like a mirror.

Before the sun went down, the highest part of Vesuvius was illuminated by the last reddish rays, while the lower area was shrouded in bluish shadows.

The Partenope route at sunset becomes a place for romantic strolls or people running, walking or with bicycles. Parents also walk with baby carriages or small bicycles for kids. Within the chaos of Naples, it becomes a wide pedestrian promenade, in an idyllic location.

After the walk we had a dinner at the Antonio & Antonio restaurant, which I recommend. I could eat buffalo cheese with pomodorinos. I loved it though, I have to say, that the cheese was too big.
