Lviv, Ukraine: 23 may 2019 [part 1]
The name of Lviv was given in honor of duke Leo I of Galicia (Lev Danylovych was a Knyaz of Belz, Peremyshl, Halych, Grand Prince of Kiev and King of Galicia-Volhynia.) Lev Danylovych the son of the founder of Lviv, Danylo Halytsky. During of the all lifetime history of the city, the Lviv was never change the city name. The name of the city with different languages: In Polish — Lwów, in Russian — Львов. There are many epithets in relation to Lviv. The similar alternate name "City of Lion" is widespread. Occasionally such comparisons, names and phrases as "City of Sleeping Lions", "The Royal City", "Capital of Galicia", "Small Paris", "Little Vienna", "Cultural capital of Ukraine" and others. De facto motto of Lviv today is "Lviv Open to the world", because it is depicted on the city logo. In the past times, the official motto was the Latin expression "Semper fidelis" (always faithful). When the city Lviv was not existed, on its modern territory it was possible to find only the small villages, hidden among the mountains, the mountains and dense forests always defended the peasants from attacks of enemies. In 14th century, when Lviv was in crisis, the Polish king Casimir III the Great, decided to use it for the personal gain and the city of Leo for several long decades passed under the reign of the ancient Poland. German architecture in Lviv: In order to create a new modern city, the King invited the Germans to build a new city, because they believed that neither the Ukrainians, nor the Poles, would be able to build it by the latest technologies of those times. When German artisans and builders were accepted for the work, Lviv was difficult to call Ukrainian and even Polish. The city became completely German: not only the architectural style was looked like German city, even the acts of the Lviv magistrate of those times were in German dialect. Most of the population of Lviv were Germans, and the city resembled the usual European style. However, not long destined to Lviv to remain in German gothic style, in 1527 there was a conflagration, which engulfed almost all the city. But residents were not going to go from there and decided to rebuild Lviv. The new architectural experiment became an Italian renaissance. Lviv again acquired a new image.
