A recent post by @valth about tourism's effects on environment got me thinking and motivated me to write this post.

According to a research conducted by group of scientists published in Nature Climate Change, global tourism contribute up to 8% to the annual greenhouse gas emission. This is about 3.9-4.5 GtCO2e(giga ton equivalent ). This number is much higher( about 3 times) than anticipated by previous studies.

So does not matter if you are a frequent tourist or an infrequent one, there are always a few small things that you can do to reduce the effect of your jaunt on environment.

1. Use Multi-purpose Things

Using multi-purpose things during your tour will not only lighten up your backpack but will also reduce your carbon footprint. Some tourists buy a lot of redundant products and in the end waste them.

2. Use Eco-friendly Products

Always go for eco-friendly product whenever possible to stop plastic pollution. e.g. prefer Coca cola Tin over plastic bottle.

3. Donate, Loan or Sell Your Used Items

You can always donate/loan your useful gadget to a friend, family member or to the locals at the end of your tour. It's the best way to ensure the full product utilization and help environment. Don't let things rot away in you cupboard if don't plan to use them in future. Or you can always sell your used items on ebay.

So next time you travel try to keep above mentioned suggestions in consideration because these little things/habits can have huge impact on environment.
