Travel Digest

For our first featured post @stabilowl takes us to Florence, Italy. Arriving in the late afternoon, the first sight is the riverbank. The trip was during winter time, so it's cold and the street lights are already starting to come on. In a way this adds another mystical layer on top of the unique architecture and buildings found along the riverside. Eventually @stabilowl arrives at the Ponte Vecchio, which has been used as a market throughout the ages, now it's mainly jewelry stores though. From here @stabilowl takes us to Pitti Palace, this area was known for the many unique art and craft shops that make Florence so unique. For some time the Medici family had his main residence inside the palace. Next up is the Palazzo Vecchio, the old town centre. The main administrative center of Florence used to be here. You can find a replica of the David in front of the palace as well. Right next to the palace, is the stunning fountain of Neptune. From here we go to the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, with it's architectural beauty!

For our second featured post of today @guchtere takes us to Shine Falls in New Zealand. After waking up early, @guchtere enjoys some time at some hot springs before setting out to Shine Falls. This hidden gem doesn't seem to attract a lot of visitors, possibly because the track cross private land first. After a hike through limestone crags and dense jungle, @guchtere arrives at the waterfall itself. At 60m high, coming down in the jungle environment, it's simply breathtaking. Make sure to check out the video from the last part up to the waterfall, and be ready to be amazed!

For our last featured post of today @r00sj3 takes us to Chania on the island of Crete, Greece. The first encounter with the Greek islands was when she was 10 years old, she made a report on it! Finally this year, @r00sj3 makes it to her first Greek island. After getting dropped off in front of the central market of Chania - where you will find a lot of local products, it's time to head towards the old port. It's easy to see the Ventian influence here (the island was under Venetian occupation). During the second world war a part of this city was completely destroyed by an airstrike and a large part of the inhabitants were executed by the Germans. Nowadays, Chania has become an important tourist destination. In a way this now overshadows the impressive history of Chania, for better or worse!
