Subject to numerous mysteries and especially relevant area as there are numerous researchers who appreciate in it multiple references to the ancient and esoteric stories related to the Holy Grail, Fresneda de la Sierra Tirón, is a small town that still retains numerous enigmas of its rich The last enigmatic time.

Located in the foothills of the Sierra de la Demanda, bordering with another community known worldwide for the extraordinary quality of its wines, such as La Rioja, the town belongs to the judicial party of Briviesca, an important town located at the foot of the Montes de Oca and watered, also, by the river of the same name: the Oca river.

In these rugged mountains, Aymeric Picaud - famous monk of French origin, author of the guide of pilgrims named Codex Calistinus - terrible bands of medieval outlaws who stole and murdered travelers, including pilgrims who were heading to Santiago of Compostela.

In such a way, that it should not be strange, in addition, that these places had a strong presence the military orders, and especially the two rival orders, part of whose mission was precisely the protection of pilgrims: the Order of the Temple and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.

In fact, in the vicinity of Fresneda de la Sierra Tirón, there are two places, which at least had something to do with the first of these orders, the Order of the Temple: the church of Visigoth origins of San Vicente del Valle and the ruins, barely recognizable and difficult to access from the old monastery of Alveinte, about which in the Middle Ages there was a curious saying, which said: 'Templar what did you do, that Alveinte you came'.

Apparently, Fresneda is a town that revolves around the imposing surface of its Gothic church, dedicated to the figure of Our Lady of the Assumption, located at the top of the town, not far from an old multi-eyed bridge, over Tiron’s river, which currently supports the passage of the general road.

The most enigmatic and at the same time, the most disconcerting thing of the town, what attracts the attention, both of travelers, as of pilgrims and that the inhabitants of the town preserve with pride, is an ancient menhir, possibly of Celtiberian origin, with an unequivocal aspect de falo, which was moved from its original location, on the hill called La Pastora, and placed a few meters from the church.

Apparently, there were many more menhirs of this type scattered around certain places in the area, but they were all destroyed by the different Catholic representatives, who followed each other from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The most mysterious thing is that it was saved and placed in a place of honor, which confirms, the strong roots of local societies with their old roots, and above all, this type of societies, farmers, mainly , and of purely matriarchal origin, who worshiped Mother Earth and whose customs include numerous gynographic references, as well as fertility cults, usefulness that should have, no doubt, so enigmatic element.

In the front central part, the figure of a curious character is seen, possibly representing one of the priests - who knows, if perhaps a victim, because this type of sacrifice entered into the rites of death and renewal, related to certain gynecological cults - and speak of time immemorial, most of whose details were definitely swallowed by the dark pools of history.

Like many other towns in the area, the terrible depopulation syndrome also occurred in Fresneda, and due to some curious circumstance, there were many inhabitants who in centuries like the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries did what were called 'the Americas' , emigrating mainly to Argentina.

The houses, except those of new construction, conserve the singularities of the typical houses of the mountain range, being its main elements the wood, the stone and the mud.

The place, as well as many other neighboring towns, belonged in its time to the Duke of Frias and in its ancient history, there are early and unique characters within the General History of Spain, such as Count Fernán González, legendary Burgos leader, founder of villas like that of Covarrubias and eternal enemy of the Moor leader Almanzor.
