Final Work Trip/Meal of the Year

in #travelfeed6 years ago (edited)

The end of the year has come (for me at least)! Students took their final exams for the semester and my co-workers, and I had a last dinner together to wind down. Usually, we call these kinds of meals a Hweshik (회식), which translates directly to 'outside dinner.' If you work in Korea, whether it is in a business, or in a kindergarten, you will most likely experience a hweshik. These can be great if you like to drink, or a nightmare, if your workplace does this every weekend. In my school, we rarely have these, but when we go out, we usually make a trip of it, and we don't drink that much, which is pretty comfortable.

For this final dinner, we took a bus to Gangjin City (강진군). I have never been here before, so it was a bit of an adventure to see. We finished school around noon, and loaded up on the bus and took off for Gangjin City. On the way, we stopped at a place famous for its pottery and a museum. We didn't go through the museum, but we; then at the gift store. Sometimes, Korean style travel trips can be strange lol

At this point, I was honestly not sure what to get for family back home, then I came across something that caught my eye at last.

Source This is an example of the what I found. I couldn't take photos in the shop, so I had to find this to show you guys. What I bought was this print on wood with gold flaking and a think wood frame to it. I think that my grandparents will love it!

Gangjin City (강진군)

The city is located right on the Southern coast, so I could get some photos of boasts and the land on the opposite side. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty cloudy and my contacts needed to be replaced, so I had to take them out that day. The good thing was, is that we didn't come here for sight-seeing. We came here to eat!

The Food

36847430_1971537506212083_8636905398026108928_n.jpg Of course, coming to a coastal city, we would eat some fresh fish! This first dish was interesting because it seems like a stew at first, but how you eat it is with lettuce wraps like samgyeupsal (삼겹살). I did not expect this, and it was delicious!

The next dish was a stew with whole fishes and served with bowls of rice to eat it with. Similiar in taste to the last dish, with the exception of the kind of fish and how you eat it.

I said both, so my co-workers took it as a kind of challenge to see how much I could drink. I didn't have much of a problem keeping up though as we finished a few bottles. Usually, they don't drink a lot, so it took me by a bit of surprise, and I enjoyed it a lot. I felt more comfortable with my Korean when I drank and connected with my co-workers more. Coming back home, I took a long deep sleep and got my new contacts the next day!

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Usually, they don't drink a lot, so it took me by a bit of suprise, and I enjoyed it a lot.
It should be surprise instead of suprise.

do you ever miss western food or do you still get it quite often there?

Nice trip to end of the year though..any plans for the summer?

I usually cook breakfast and dinner for myself, so the only things I really miss is ribeye steaks and Mexican food. Red meat is too expensive here, and Mexican food is always seemingly off and I haven't taken the time to get my own ingredients. lol
Plan is basically just hang out with friends and family. Take a camping trip to Colorado to see some family there, but aside from that. Not much really.

ahh weird that they can't master the craft of mexican..maybe lack of ingredients like you said? Nothing beats a medium rare ribeye steak!

Ahh sounds like fun enjoy your time being at home!

Dear @mr-bike,

Your story attracted our attention and we would like to introduce our tag #archisteem that could provide you with some extra support. For your information, we are currently running the project – 1001 Places to Remember. Your content is a fit for the project and could be qualified for the 10 SBD reward biweekly contest.

Do drop by and take a look :) Hope to see you around soon.

Stay tuned and Steem on!

Sincerely from,

@archisteem and team

Biweekly contest and it ends in a week. Are you going to do this in the future as well?
And I used more than 3 photos, so it is not qualified for the contest.

For your ease of understanding. One season will last for 2 weeks and another season will kick in when the previous season ends. Yes, it will be an ongoing project until we collect 1001 stories (as of now, we collected over 100 stories).

We had changed the rules to allow more than 3 photos. So, no worry @mr-bike.
