This is Lagodekhi National Park in Georgia.
It's a beautiful, green and wild place, and one of the most spectacular places I have ever visited.
The National Park is nestled in the remote eastern corner of Georgia (the country of course!) and the last frontier between the small Caucasus nation and the huge form of Russia above it.
It's a wild, untamed land of towering trees and high mountain peaks. Bears still walk the dense woods here and glacial water flows down from the icy mountains above, crashing through the rocky river beds and creating incredible cascading waterfalls.
I went hiking along the overgrown trails that weave through the tall, green, verdant trees. Over rickety wooden bridges that spanned roaring white waters and along boulder strewn riverbeds and over huge moss covered rocks. I hiked for miles and miles through spectacular, natural scenery and saw not a single other person in the woods.
I hiked as far into the forest as I dared, following roughly marked trails until I arrived at a dead end, where a huge waterfall crashed from the cliffs above into the river below. There was just dense forest ahead and crashing water from the mountains of the Caucasus range above me.
It's a truly spectacular National Park, but a place that is so remote and far off that few people outside of Georgia have even heard of the name Lagodekhi, let alone have visited it and hiked its trails.
