My Georgian Diary. Day 6/7 - Part 2 - Gveleti Waterfall

in #travelfeed5 years ago (edited)

Hello today!

I continue my story about visiting the country of Georgia, and in this post I head directly to Gveleti big waterfall

For your convenience, I put links to previous parts at the bottom of this post.

So, from Gergeti Monastery we went north on E117 or Georgian Military Highway. In fact, our destination consists of 3 landmarks: Lake, Small Waterfall and Big Waterfall, all of them are very easy to get.

Before we go, we knew about 2 of 3, and visited only 1 :) You know, as I am getting more adult, I think that the number of visited attractions don't matter. Much more important is how much you enjoy your visit :)

The Lake is the one you see at the first picture. It is a 50-100 meters after the left exit to the waterfall. Here you have 3 choices. To left your car right at the exit (properly speaking, there is no parking there) and walk by feet, or ... rent a "taxi" for that journey, or if you have SUV (best of all is Delica made in Japan) and a good driver careful driver.

Why did I say that? Ok, we went by feet and the road didn't look very dangerous. But on the way back we noticed a black trail on the stones. As at least 3 of us were experienced drivers with tech education, we made an investigation and found out, that the driver damaged his gas tank on the way to the waterfall, and he did not made all way back and had to stop at nearest someone's property. We even found the stone that made a damage, and the hole was big.

Thus, we followed the dirt road. The trail is well marked, and you'd not get lost as (well, it's easy to guess) you go upstream along the river all the time. Some recourse on the net said that it woukd take 1 hour return way to both waterfalls, but ... well, if you concentrate on the time, it is possible. But in slow pace, taking pictures and just having fun it took us an hour for only big one.

Landscape is absolutely stunning in any direction! I never saw mountains like this and was thrilled by Kazbegi.

In some distance, we saw small footbridge across the river. Here canyon splits into two branches. One of them leads to small waterfall, another one - to big.

We crossed the river, and in about 10 minutes then we saw it. The name Gveleti waterfall can be translated as the Snake’s Waterfall. It is one of the most fabulous waterfalls in Georgia. Besides, the view from here is gorgeous...

I captured a video and I was lucky to upload it to dTube today, lol. In fact, it was our last landmark on this journey...

We returned to the car and took our way back to Tbilisi. Out flight back home was on the next day.

That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed it!
