Strolling around the mother of all parks in Cordillera! (Burnham Park)
I'm just a little girl lost in the middle- ha-ha
Despite the chilliness and rainfall in Baguio City we still coated ourselves in a warm jacket to go out. Since we all know that the month of June is a fresh start of the school year, we need to buy clothes, a pair of shoes, and school supplies for our youngest beautiful sister Shyla Mae, good thing she's not a picky type so she just grabs clothes that she thinks it was great, hence, we'd finished shopping in a short time.
We still have enough time before evening so why not stroll around Burnham Park? One of the famous parks in the country located at the heart of Baguio in Jose Abad Santos Drive, Philippines. Burnham park is known also as the mother of all parks in Cordillera due to its wide area. And because the temperature is freezing I think foggy backdrops are perfect for my photos.
Actually, I used to jog and exercise in this park early in the morning before the golden sun will rise on the horizon, but I recently discontinued for some reason.
Brief History
Are you wondering where does the name of the park come from?
It comes after Daniel Burnham, an American Architect and Baguio City planner. The park still features most of his designs, but the locals decided to change a few for enhancement.
Aside for recreational activities, this park is a perfect escape for the hustling and bustling of the City. A quiet place where you can enjoy your solitude in the garden full of gorgeous roses and green grasses. It was fenced in with vibrant hues of the different varieties of flowers. Additionally, a lot of huge and tall trees are strongly standing every side of the pathways which is an astonishing picturesque view for couples!
Hungry but you don't have plenty of dough in your wallet? No worries! Vendors are offering sweet and warm taho, sweet corn, junk foods, penoy or balut (duck egg), barbecue during late afternoon and lots of street foods you could think of.
Burnham Park featured areas:
Burnham Lagoon
For those photography enthusiast, make sure to visit the place during sunny days and earlier in the morning. You'll surely mesmerize by the lagoon coated with mist.
The man-made lake with rowboats for hire with only P100 for 30 minutes that folks refer to as the Burnham Lagoon.
The Children's Playground
This has been recently painted with brightly colors and renovated by the locals to ensure that swings and slides are safe for our precious little ones. Also, last summer, They build an amusement and carnival rides which is great, but it was now closed due to the bad weather.
The Skating Rink
You might want to spend your time roller skating in the rink situated in the south portion of the park. Also, you can enjoy the mini amusement rides encircled by the rink. The good thing is they have tables and bench outside where you can have a picnic.
Of course we also have a skating area for skate boards located at the end portion of the biking area.
Biking Area
If you wanted to feel a little bit warmer and make your muscles toner, why not try to ride bikes? They offer mountain bikes and a sidecar. It's better to do it during weekdays when people of Baguio are busy so that it was not too populated.
The Rose Garden
A fascinating wide garden full of blossoming rose- red, white, yellow, peach, pink. Also, does not only feature roses, but also different vibrant varieties of flowers. Rose garden is my favorite place among the cluster areas of Burnham Park. You're not only welcomed by the fresh cold air, but you can enjoy watching the fountain at late afternoon.
The Orchidarium
Same as the rose garden, they were truly captivating and full of vibrant blooming plants, but mostly featured are orchids. You may also buy potted plants at an affordable price and they have plenty of varieties for you to choose.
Igorot Garden
Are you good at playing chess? Then you might want to give a try. The good thing in Igorot garden is where the masters keep chess alive. Another good thing in this park is it highlights the five awe-inspiring Igorot statues displaying their bravery.
Melvin Jones Grandstand
It is an open stadium where they most host concerts, parades specially Panagbenga festival. During rainy season the ground is muddy and slippery so better not walk here, find another route instead.
The Athletic Bowl
A sporting venue that was now completely renovated, a place to cultivate athletes to reach their goals.
A Picnic Grove
Perfect place to have a picnic with an awesome friends and family.
You may also visit The Japanese Peace Tower, Pine Trees of the World, and the Sunshine Park.
It was really tiring to roam around whole Burnham Park but it was really fun and interesting. I hope you'll like my pictures.
