Tree Tuesday - Hello i am Mr Knobby Tree !!

in #treetuesday6 years ago

I have to say trees are the most fascinating creatures of mother nature when you think you have seen them all there is always another one around the corner that will astound you. I was walking through the grounds of a university campus one of the many universities in Bangkok and i stumbled across one of the most knobbiest tree i have ever seem.

I have come across many lovely old trees in many sharps and forms along my travels but this tree just stood out it had so much character about it that it needed a closer inspection.

They call this abnormal growth a burr or also know as a burl and how this is formed well it's like a mass of shoots and bud tissue that grows frenetically and forms that distinctively knobbly growth on a tree.

Why these burrs appear is because it's like a healing process a wound that the tree might have suffered either from a virus , bacteria , insect activity , weather or even human damage.

Now looking at this tree truck from this angle someone could say this truck is pretty well hang....lol :))))))

So there you go for anyone who thought that a tree with these ugly unsightly burrs , warts , knobby's or whatever you might want to call them was harmful to the tree well now we know they are not it's when the tree has become under stress from a wound or infection that it converts to this healing process thus the burrs.

Sort:

Most knobbiest says it best. Fascinating, yes.

This poor tree has seen some tough times.

I have had a few tree posts simply because I found them worth sharing.

Snapped this of my favorite neighborhood tree just this evening. Told Ron I wasn't going to post but figured I would quick send it your way.

Not knobby but wonderful shades of green.

Some of these trees really have a will to survive no matter what and old Knobby is proving that. Love your tree full bloom with a great shady head :)

Not a big tree Hugger but tree Lover.

I am a very environmentally friendly sort. No litter, recycle anything possible, smart choices around the house. Our future generations need to live here!

Great way to be i am much the same just wish more people were it would be a much pleasant environment to live in :)
