“No, you weren’t,’’ Ellis said. “You were looking down.’’

“Because I don’t want to get in trouble for some facial expression,’’ the prosecutor said. “I don’t want to get yelled at again by the court for having some facial expression when I’m not doing anything wrong, but trying my case.’’

Ellis said to another prosecutor: “You must be quiet.’’

“I’m sorry, judge,’’ Andres said.

“Well, I understand how frustrated you are. In fact, there’s tears in your eyes right now.’’

“There are not tears in my eyes, Judge,’’ Andres said.

“Well, they’re watery,’’ Ellis said. “Look, I want you to focus sharply on what you need to prove -- to prove the crime. And I don’t understand what a lot of these questions have to do with it.’

Your first though may be that this is the script to some Hollyweird courtroom drama.

You would be wrong; this is the transcript for the actual proceedings during the Manafort trial.
Manafort Judge to Prosecutor: ‘There’s Tears in Your Eyes’

While I think Manafort is guilty of the things they are charging him with, the trial is a sham for the following reason:
The trial of Manafort is politically driven in order to make a public propaganda show suggesting that Trump "colluded" with the Russians. Manafort's actual guilt has nothing to do with the actions of Mueller

Supports?

• To start with, Mueller's office is based on the proposition that Trump fired Comey as an act of obstruction of justice, yet it was Rosenstein that wrote up the actual reasons and recommended that Comey be fired.

• Making the entire affair a joke, Rosenstein was also the one who hired Mueller to investigate this supposed "obstruction of justice"

• Rosenstein bungled the technicalities of that appointment

In appointing Mueller on May 17, 2017, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein failed to comply with federal regulations that control special-counsel investigations

The secret August 2 memo, by which Rosenstein attempted to paper over this dereliction, is so facially uninformative and heavily redacted that the subjects of the investigation, the courts, and the public are still in the dark. The factual basis for a criminal investigation is still unknown, as are the boundaries of Mueller’s jurisdiction — with Mueller’s prosecutors paying lip service to the notion of limits, even as they argue that, essentially, there are none.

The unconstitutionality of Mueller’s appointment renders everything he has done since May 17, 2017, unconstitutional as well

• Making Rosenstein even more of a joke, it was Rosenstein himself who exonerated manafort on the exact same charges 8 years ago!

And who was the young prosecutor that led that exoneration? Rod Rosenstein, who now runs the Justice Department.

And they have threatened to call Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein as their first witness and have him give to the jury all the reasons why he declined the prosecution of these charges eight years ago.

• Which would be bad in itself, but Mueller may or may not have given immunity to Podesta, who worked with Manafort on these specific charges, and would be liable for these same crimes...if he himself weren't a Clinton ally. The immunity issue is not clear at this time, since the Mueller team is not fully open with the public.

• Finally, and the final laugh in the barrage of laughter at how Kafkaesque this trail is...there will be no evidence at this trial regarding Russian collusion...the linchpin of Mueller's "obstruction" fantasy

Conclusion

The special counsel lawyers have been operating for over a year now without having to prove anything, other than "leaking" bad optics to their allies in the press. Now they have gone into a courtroom with a judge that wants evidence to back up their allegations.

Yet these lawyers have no evidence and were told they couldn't use words to propagandizing Manafort's clients. this suggests they were expecting to be able to argue in court as though they were arguing in the court of public opinion.

They have spent so much time talking to each other and their Ministry of Truth allies about all this fantasy collusion that they have found NOTHING they could prove in a court of law. Now they're in front of a judge with that nothing.

No wonder the prosecutor is crying; his own license may be on the line for participating in this sedition.
