The case for mortality.

There was a time when people drove cars without wearing seatbelts, when kids rode bicycles without helmets on their heads.

There was a time when a building maintenance guy could change a light bulb without putting on a florescent yellow jacket, safety goggles, and creating a perimeter fence of orange plastic cones.

These days of longer life expectancy with the promise of medical, mechanical immortality just around the corner people are starting to walk on egg shells and severely curtail their living enjoyment.

The phrase and thought 'you're going to die anyway' allows for a cavalier attitude to physical injury risk taking and the enjoyment that comes from 'getting away with it'

For example:

Just think how worried you'd be about every breath you take and every move you make if you were immortal.
