Why Am I Supporting EST Tonight?

EST (Espérance Sportive de Tunis) is a Tunisian football club way before Americans called it a time zone! Not that it bothers me or something EST is my least favorite team in Tunisia so go ahead and call it whatever you want.

Why is it my least favorite team?

Obviously, because CA (Club Africain) is my favorite team. CA & EST are called the traditional enemies around here. Not only they are both located in Tunis, the capital and the biggest city in Tunisia, but they come from the same area of the city "Beb Jedid" and "Beb Souika" are amongst the most ancient neighborhoods in the city (Most of them start with "Beb" which means door), they are also not far away from each other at all. Only "Al Kasbah" separates them which is another ancient neighborhood, probably the most famous in Tunisia thanks to its very special architecture and the fact that the government is located there and that most of the Tunisian revolution's events happened there! "El Kasbah" is a neighborhood both clubs try to claim for themselves their supporters include it in their chants.

Ok I know you didn't need this geography lesson here.

So why is EST my least favorite team?

Other than being the traditional enemy of my favorite team, EST represents the second most popular team in Tunisia. I think you can guess who's the most popular ;)
When you wanna speak about football with a Tunisian person, feel safe to ask him "Do you support CA or EST?" Because even if that person lives in another city that has a strong football team, he must have a favorite one of those two. The Derby Of Tunis is the biggest football event in Tunisia. The whole country watches it and they better have a favorite team to support in that match even if it's not their city's team.

When one of those two clubs, let's say EST, plays against any other club, from Tunisia or from outside, the supporters of CA normally support that other team to make fun of the supporters of EST and it is a fun game lol.

Why am I supporting EST this time?

Because tonight is the African Champions League's Final. EST is playing in Tunis tonight against Al Ahly, from Egypt. Al Ahly won 3-1 in Egypt (A scandal happened in that match, so EST needs to win 2-0 to win the title. I hope they do! Simply because they represent Tunisia tonight. Also, because if they keep that title in Tunis, with all the money that comes with it, that can only make EST richer and make the concurrence harder for all the Tunisian clubs, which will hugely affect our National Team (positively of course) that will be playing soon for the African Cup.
