Arsenal have signed a youngster Dominic Thompson in a permanent deal to Brentford.

Thompson a 19-year-old appeared in the game against Colorado Rapids, Fiorentina and Angers in pre-season and was also part of the squad that travelled to Barcelona last weekend.

Thompson played 13 times and a total of 695 minutes last season in Premier League 2 for Arsenal.

An Arsenal academy graduate, the 21-year-old defender first joined us in 2012.

Dominic earned his first professional contract in June 2018 and made a total of 39 appearances for our under-18 and under-23 sides.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes Dominic all the best for his future.

It is reported that many had hoped that Thompson’s move to Brentford would allow them to sell Rico Henry to Celtic, allowing Kieran Tierney to move to Arsenal.

The 27-year-old defender began his career with Charlton Athletic before joining us in June 2011.

He spent the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons on loan at West Ham United followed by a loan spell at Championship club Birmingham City during the 2017/18 season.

Thompson represented both England and Finland internationally at youth level before making his debut for the senior England team in 2012 against Sweden.

We would like to thank Carl for his contribution to the club and everyone at Arsenal wishes him all the best for his future.

If he thought he was edging closer to regular first team football, it appears the club were thinking otherwise.

In fairness, it can’t have come as too much of a surprise.

Our pursuit of Celtic’s Kieran Tierney has been very public and Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal are also ahead of him in the pecking order.
