ULOG: Win Over Traffic and Lateness

Today, I started my Trainers Methodology Competency 1 Training in SKILLS located in the old Sacred Heart School near DOLE Region 7 and Cebu Immaculada Conception (CIC). The training is starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM.

But, I slept very late last night so I woke up late (for the training). It was already 7:40 AM so I only had 20 minutes to travel. Taking the tricycle plus the jeepney would take me almost an hour. And I obviously do not want to give a bad impression from our trainor.

So, the best and the fastest way to arrive before the time was to take a two-wheeled taxi called in Cebu “Habal-habal”. There was a short agreement between me and the habal-habal driver regarding the fare from Canduman to the Training Center. He said he would be asking 130.00 for the fare of course, like what Pinoys would normally do, I nicely requested for a lesser fare price . We agreed on the 100 pesos fare.

I arrived two minutes earlier in the training center. So, I had the chance to listen and participate in the training from the beginning up to the end. Yes, we won over the Cebu traffic and the possible lateness in the training. Here’s a glimpse of my habal-habal journey.

Choose a Habal-Habal

1. Beat the traffic. Metro Cebu is very congested nowadays this is the Filipino way of solving the long-time problem in the Philippines. If you do not want to be stuck in the road for a couple of minutes, you can opt to take the Habal-Habal.
2. Avoid lateness. Arriving early to work and school is a good practice. They say, that early birds catches the worms and that is so true. So, if you are running out of time but still do not want to have a record of tardiness, your best travel choice is taking the motorcycle taxi.

DO NOT CHOOSE HABAL-HABAL

1. It’s too risky. Taking the motorcycle taxi is not so safe. We have heard plenty news and seen a couple of motorcycle accidents in the past compared to taking the tricycle, cab, or jeepney.
2. It is illegal. This mode of transportation is illegal. If untoward accidents happen to you, you cannot expect of an insurance because it is against the law.
3. It is expensive. My total fare if I only have taken the tricycle and jeepney is only 18.00 pesos but since I choose a habal-habal, I spent a hundred.
4. It is not skin-friendly. Riding a motorcycle means you are exposed openly to the heat of the sun. If your conscious about your skin color and complexion, taking a habal-habal is not a good idea.

Personal Learning Insights

• If your problem is traffic and lateness, the solution is to go to your destination early.
• Take the jeepney than the habal-habal options.
• I was so wrong with only 2 good reasons.
