ULOG:08: Quick Seafood on Lunch, But Not For Everyone | Seafood Allergy Remedy

Let me share you my #ulog today..

Today I just had a sumptuous lunch at Choobi-Choobi the freshest seafood made affordable. Yes! you have heard it right. S-E-A-F-O-O-D. I am a fan of seafood, whenever I go for an out of town trip, I usually search for seafood restaurant or food chain, especially when the place is near the ocean. Literally any seafood. From fish to crustacean. Yum!

I am just fortunate enough to have enjoyed this kind of blessing of the sea without experiencing itchiness of skin and throat, rash, hives, the difficulty of breathing, vomiting, and diarrhea which are symptoms of allergic reactions.

Seafood has scored the most number of being a major food allergens, meaning, food that triggers allergic reactions. Together with it are tree nuts, soy, peanuts, sesame seeds, milk, eggs, sulfites. And under seafood are * fish and crustacean shellfish. *

Examples of mollusks are scallops, mussels, barnacle, oyster, and clams. While crustacean shellfish are crabs, lobsters, shrimps and anything that is under sea anthropods.

This kind of sickness is not a joke, it is critical as this can cause death.

But for some, that is fortunate not having the said threat like me, we can enjoy some of its health benefits. But take note that some allergic reactions can be triggered anytime, even when we get old without having one. So still be cautious.

So what did I have this affordable seafood chain Choobi Choobi?

Patrick Star's Baked Scallops.. Actually, I was craving for oyster, but since it is not available, I ordered this to at least satisfy my cravings.

It was all good to start my meal. Cheese has well-balanced to provide saltiness to the scallops, one slurp and geee! An awesome taste and flavors. Scallops are known to be sea-water clams, just bigger.

A scallop is a good source of protein. And that means it is healthy for our muscles. If you are into bodybuilding, this one is for you.

But I am not into bodybuilding, but I am into solving the cravings.

It is not easy to find a seafood restaurant in the metro, that is why Choobi Choobi is on a perfect place in a perfect moment.

Garlic Buttered Shrimp. This is definitely my favorite. I don't if they are the "janitor" of the sea but they are delicious. I can't resist the added sweetness of the corn complementing the toasty-herby garlic.

Despite being the "janitor" of the deep ocean, shrimp has offered such benefits as lots of nutrients and vitamin B12 to name a few. Meaning it is healthy all the way. But still, too much is bad.

Many said that there is a way that this crustacean can be consumed even by those with allergies. Through cleaning it properly before cooking. Properly cleaning means removing the head, tail, shell and the strand of a dark red vein that can be found when the back part of the shrimp is cut.

They said that its vein is the culprit to the allergic reaction, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Still, prevention is better than cure.

But if in case an allergic attack, here are some home remedies that can be applied as first aid.

Lemon

  • Lemon is very helpful to any kind of allergy due to its acidity. Lemon juice or an extract of lemon on the water can decrease rash.

Honey

  • Honey was said to be the best prawn allergy cure. Once itch is experience, drink a glass of warm water with a tablespoon of honey added to it. Because has a vitamins substance of the honey which can ease the itch.

Ginger

  • A cup of ginger tea is also beneficial to reduce itchy and red skin that caused by the shellfish.

Castor Oil

  • Dilute castor oil in warm water and sip it once prawn allergy attacks and do it even after curing the allergic reaction.

These will not prevent allergic reaction but will somehow cure. Again, prevention is better than cure.
