Why am I not a mermaid? Ulog Day 13
I used to be a fish.
and then.... I made the mistake of watching JAWS as a tween.
Ohhhhh how I wish I could go back and correct that mistake! Even AFTER I grew up and saw how ridiculously fake that JAWS shark looked.... it had changed for me. That sweet innocent child that ran into the embrace of the water and stayed for hours and hours, splashing, jumping, riding the waves like a dolphin..... I lost that, and never really found it again. I still went into the water - but not with the reckless abandon of the fearless.
My Welcome Wagon partner (@bluefinstudios) and I were recently talking about the ocean. Though we both love it, he has no fear of it. How I wish I could go back to that feeling! To be able to be completely at home in its presence again... hmmmm, I would love it.
Listening to the soothing sounds of the sea.
Feeling the silky sand on my soles.
Smelling the salt from the shore.
Soaking up the sun on my skin.
Though I'm still intimidated by its power and its mystery, it calls to me like none other. There are very few places that I'd rather be. Maybe someday, the fear will leave, and I'll return to my true form. Until then....
hehe no mermaid for me I wouldn't fit the suit and look more like a beached whale :P
never never never. the suits are stretchy!!!! LOLOL
and tight probably! hahahahaha just think - we'd look amazing Andy! our hips would be all nice and curvy and sleek!
just be a mermaid with me!!!!! LOL all that swimming would make us be super sexy. LOLOLOL
Maybe you need to go to a hypnotherapist and have them remove the memory of watching Jaws- or help you overcome it. It's such a sad thing that it changed your relationship with the sea so drastically!
I've never seen the draw of being a mermaid though... but I think that's because there was a non-disneyfied version of the children's tale on my shelf as a kid! Have you ever read an older version of it? Make's the scariness of Jaws look like child's play!
The sea though? Yes, the sea calls to me too. It has this amazing ability to re-set you. I'd love to live right next to the sea. To be able to spill out onto the beach first thing every morning. Heaven.

hehehehehe i dont' care if i'm a mermaid or not really... what i really want - is just to have gills like the guy from Waterworld.. hahahahahaha so I could just go down down down, and not drown drown drown! LOLOL
we are going back in 2 weeks - and I really want to find a nice little place ON the beach. I love waking up to it - and going to sleep to it. but they're so expensive!
our bdays are coming up. (hubby in 3 days - me in... 11 days) so i guess it could be our bday present? to spend a little extra for one night stay right ON the beach??? hmmmm stay tuned ;)
Oh yes- that sounds like the perfect way to celebrate your joint birthdays together. Waking up to that sound... what could be better?

A mermaid? That impracticalities of both worlds! No feet to walk on land and needing oxygen to breath, restricting the sea life! No hybrids, go full human or full fish!

Some evenings, around sunset, I watch the dolphins frolicking in the waves. There is no one on the beach, just a couple of stray cows wanding along the sand. How I wish I could swim with them, just enjoying the total freedom and each other's company...
