Firstly, I did like to salute the courage of the gallant Comrades and every Federal University Oye-Ekiti (Fuoye) Students that stood gallantly against any form of oppression. Sometimes success is not achieve by sitting down at the round table discussing,you have to show some action and let your voice be heard.
Students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti converge en masse to protest the newly introduced policy of “No school fees, no exams”
The institution authority unofficially begin to employ the new policy last week, with students expected to pay 100 per cent fees before they can be allowed to sit for exams.
The students took their march to the school gate on Monday and block major roads leading into the institution, in the process disrupting the activities of the day.While students were matching from Information Communication Technology (ICT) unit to the school gate in Irona street. Dr. Fayemi, a candidate for the upcoming Ekiti State Gubernatorial election addresses the protesting students.
The Dean of Student Affair, Dr Malomo, told Union of Campus Journalists,FUOYE chapter that the Vice Chancellor is very much aware of the protest and he has agreed to given students who had not make the payment the grace til second semester. He also state that their will be make up exams for students who were denied access into the examination hall in the previous week.
Concerning today’s movement,this is the resolution from the school authority and the concerned student representatives;
• No examination till further notice.
• The students who are unable to write their exams due to the fact that they didn’t pay their school fees will write before the exam continues.
• The students can now pay their school fees by installmental but if you have your complete money,it’s very advisable to pay at once.
• By 7:30am tomorrow all students should assemble at the school gate and NO STUDENTS will be allowed to write any what’s so ever examinations until all this agreements is done properly and well documented.
The University Vice Chancellor promise to meet with the Stakeholders by 1pm tomorrow,and from there,there will be a proper Memo from the school management on when and how to continue the examinations the DJ will be at your service to entertain you all. The goal is not to waste anybody’s time as we are all aware the semester is long enough already. But an injury to one is an injury to all.
