Ulog # 053: Reading in the dark

in #ulog5 years ago (edited)

Greetings, everyone
As if the blackouts that have considerably reduced our connectivity were not enough, my phone has started to fail. I depend on this device to connect to the internet and to Steemit. Having it repaired is way too expensive; getting a new one is out of the question.

I am doing my best to keep posting, commenting, and voting, but it has become very difficult every day. We are exhausted with this constant power cuts. Everything suggests that this situation will last and that, far from improving, it may get worse.

In the meantime, we keep trying to keep ourselves busy, active, sane. We have been reading and drawing as a family, even in the darkness, illuminated only by the short-lasting light of a cell phone. We have rediscovered old past times, like cards. I am working on a post about Ronda, a spanish cards game I used to play when I was a kid. If the power cuts allow me and the phone does not die, I'll put together some images and the whole set of rules for those of you who like card games and have not played Ronda.

Sometimes we have electricity in our area but our phones are down because there are power cuts in other areas that may affect the phone company's transmission systems. The thing is, even when we have power we are still limited when it comes to communication and basic activities such as shopping or banking.

Now you know what's going on if you don't see me around.

I hope to be back soon.

Saludos profesor,

Hahaha. Good illustration, @tramelibre. (either we weep or we sell handkerchiefs)
You are absolutely right (the government is behind this sick manipulation of energy and is responsible for the collapse). Amid these readings we have been doing, I ran into an issue of 2010 Tricolor Magazine about which I plan to write another post. By then, the minister of education was ne of the "discoverers of warm water" Hector Navarro (that's what we call those who supported the revolution for years until they fell in disgrace, started to criticize the very same policies they helped implement, and changed bands trying to safe their neck).

That issue of the former educational children's magazine was devoted to electric energy (in response to the crisis we had then) and the only thing that is evidenced there is how, after the nationalization of the electric sector and after all the promises of alternative energy, nothing was done to avert what we are living now.
They even used my dear Uncle Rabbit for propaganda purposes denouncing our squandering of energy, which was determined to be the cause of the energy debacle (alog with some iguanas).

Unfortunately, one does not escape emotions and no matter how much we try to articulate and intelectualize them, sometimes we are overwhlemed by viscerality. It is a constant struggle.

Jajaja.

Hi, I m new here ) Can you tell the name of the spanish cards game ?

Hope that everything is ok with your phone :)

Thanks for commenting, @tasha112.
Your comment actually made me edit the post. I realized I had been too sketchy and gave the impression that the post would be about the card game.
I am still writing that one, editing some pictures and putting together the rules, along with a short video demo.
The game's name is Ronda (round)

Where there is will, there is a way.

I admire your patience and calmness during your stressful situation.

I pray that it will end soon.

Thanks for stopping by.
These psychos that govern us are experts in breaking anyone's will. They do it without the least regret. They learned from the best, the cubans, and unfortunately for us, the times of diplomacy and international arrangements do not match the times of the average citizen whose life expenctancy may be contingent to the next blackout.

Feeling sorry for your situation.
I miss your good old writings...
Stay blessed.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
It's hard to even think straight with so much crap going on, let alone create. Creating even puts you in a moral dilemma. It demands isolation from the current events, it makes you feel guilty for not wanting to do more, for hiding behind your screens, for wanting to build an island of sanity.

I can understand your situation a bit and this comment clarify the thing.
Let's hope for the best.
