Ulog 009: School Supplies Project in Medellin, Cebu

I had the opportunity to serve others through charity event spearheaded by Engr. Mike Manlangit. Caputatan Norte Integrated School isn’t a stranger to Engr. Mike’s kindness. This school is located in Medellin, Cebu. They have been a beneficiary of a school building donated by Engr. Mike’s team (other benefactors and contractors) three years ago when Typhoon Yolanda struck the Philippines.

Engr. Mike made good with his promise to come back and share some love with the teachers and students of Caputatan Norte Integrated School through his recent charity work called the School Supplies Project. The School Supplies Project aim to provide school bags, notebooks, and basic school materials to the students. There were more than 300 students as beneficiaries. And through the generous hearts of all benefactors, around 100,000 pesos was raised for the success of this project.

The students were very much eager to receive their own bags and school supplies and waited for us as early as 7:00 in the morning. We made sure to buy snacks and juices for them on our way to the school. Already lined up under a huge tent and seeing the excited faces of the students, we hurriedly unloaded the goods from the van. The teachers were very helpful in making the distribution of the bags and snacks smooth and orderly. Students too were well behaved and waited for their turn.

The volunteers were given specific tasks and there were two teams who distributed the bags. I was tasked with documenting the whole experience for us to share to the benefactors. It was challenging taking videos and photos at the same time in a very short amount of time. It probably just took us 40 minutes to 1 hour to distribute everything to 300 students.

I enjoyed watching the happy faces of the children. They were so grateful of these simple gifts that were given to them. I’m pretty sure they are more inspired and motivated to attend their classes and study well. These kids are the future and we should do our best to give them hope and inspiration.
