Ulog #6: Will you hire me with this Cover Letter? Diaries of an Unemployed Engineer

Hello Uloggers! I miss you all. I have been quite busy for the past days making sure the Awesome SMILE Project would be a success! So today, I have finally decided to apply for a day job. As much as I love Steemit, I also love working as a Civil Engineer. It is one of my passion. I think my parents have been just keeping it cool for the past months and was understanding enough why I didn't hurry up finding a job.

I have been sitting all day sending my application emails to several companies already. And you know what? It's not an easy task writing different cover letters for different companies. I am not like those who just have one cover letter and send that to all companies they wished to apply.

And I realized that I have to be unique with the pitch I have to give if I want to stand out from other applicants. So with that, I made a very genuine cover letter. This one is by far my favorite of all. I wrote all the things I've done for the past 5 months of not having a job. And here it goes..

"Good day! You can call me KC. I am a licensed civil engineer. I am now ready to take on the construction industry once more after 5 months of soul searching. These soul-searching activities include:

1. Volunteering for the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) as a field worker to do an ocular inspection on the damages of school properties for public schools in Argao, Cebu,

2. Solo backpacking in Southeast Asia for three weeks (Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia),

3. Organizing my first ever charity event called the Awesome SMILE Project which provided needs for the street children here in Cebu, City.

These were by far my great achievements during the course of 5 months of trying to figure out what I really wanted to do in life. And these activities really taught me a lot of things about myself:

1. I am capable of doing things that give me a sense of purpose. During that time I volunteered for the RAFI, I was part of a bigger picture in helping them find ways to improve the infrastructure of public schools. This made me realized that if we have a sense of purpose in what we do, then the more we excel in doing those things.

2. I am independent and have a strong will to survive alone on a journey outside home. But at the same time, I learned to be more sociable through meeting other foreign travelers abroad. I learned how to create genuine relationships and the importance of building a network of people and friends.

3. I am more fulfilled and happy when I serve humanity by practicing acts of kindness and compassion. The Awesome SMILE Project which I organized was a huge success in bringing smiles on the faces of the street children. We gave away clothing, slippers, food, and bundles of joy. They enjoyed the art workshop and basketball exhibition we prepared for them.

I am now excited to fulfill my long-term goals for my career that includes learning Project Safety Management and Construction Management. If given the chance to work for your amazing company, I am sure I can bring so much more to the table. Looking forward to your positive response."
