Drunk Butterflies, Rope Swings, Farm Fun and Winter Sunshine Adventures! - #Ulog entry No. 18
Curiosity also killed the Butterfly - but an adventurous butterfly he was! - Jaynie
......
We have been lucky enough to have had a long weekend here, and whilst yesterday and today have been pretty relaxed, we did have a fabulous day out on Thursday. Despite it being Winter here, Cape Town was sporting some GORGEOUS weather, so we decided to hop in the car and take Jude and two of his buddies out for the afternoon.
Drunk Butterflies, Rope Swings, Farm Fun and Winter Sunshine Adventures!
......
We headed down to Noordhoek Farm Village which is about 20 min from where we live. There is a great little restaurant there where the kids can literally go wild!
Unfortunately all the tables in the sun had already been nabbed, so we had to settle for sitting in the shade and DAMN the wind was cold lol....
nothing a little bit of red wine couldn't fix though... haha -
warms you from the inside out I tell you!!!
The kids had their shoes kicked off in a matter of seconds and off they went to do as boys do best! They are a wonderfully easy threesome to take out. Jude however had a little bit of a "sulk spell" because he had his shin kicked with the stud of a soccer boot the day prior, so could not really partake in the game of soccer as enthusiastically as he had wanted to.... but he got over himself soon enough haha!
After some wild runabout, the boys were starving so they came to stuff their faces with some pizza! Amazing how kids love pizza... cannot say I really relate to that passion lol... I would only ever order a pizza if there was REALLY nothing else to choose from, and really speaking, there is ALWAYS something else to choose haha!
Like chicken curry for instance! lol - although that was not mine, it was Dave's haha! I ordered a toasted ham, cheese and tomato with chips.... yeah I know.... I cheated on the carbs - oh well!!!! hahaha Was TOTALLY worth it! And I never even snapped it with my cam because I was too damn starving!
Once we were all finished with lunch, we took the boys to go feed some of the farm animals. It never ceases to amaze me how despite their enthusiasm for technology in general... stick them in front of a couple of farm animals and they are amused for hours on end. You would swear they even forgot about all that tech momentarily hahaha!!!
My ABSOLUTE highlight for the day was this butterfly that clearly had a massive obsession for my wine!!!! This guy was literally ALL over me, the bottle and the glass!
Sadly for him though, it did not end well. A starling in the tree next to us, had obviously been watching him and as he was swirling around in the air re-approaching the wine - the starling swooped down and ate him! How TRAGIC!!! - Well... at least he died drunk!!! hehehehehe poor thing!
Somewhat surreal to think that I captured the last few seconds of his life.
The second and final highlight of the day for me heading back, was that it was dinner at my moms place so I didn't have to cook (and she made roast lamb... YUM!!) and also, no school the following day.... it was a win, win, WIN situation all round haha!
……
Until next time...
Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx

hehehe Hi @janton :) And yes... pretty much is all around the Western Cape anyway :)
Fantastic photos of the butterfly. You probably got the poor guy hammered. lol.
Such a scenic place with the mountains in The background. Truly looked like a lovely day.
hahaha @blewitt - he did that ALL on his own! Thats probably why he got eaten too, because he could not fly straight lol
His death will forever be on your conscience. Shame on you. 😂

Looks like a really fun day! The photos are fantastic! What a beautiful spot to take the boys! It was so kind of you to share your wine with the wildlife! Even though it turn out too well for the poor little critter!!! Hahaha!
hahaha yeah shame! Perhaps if he had not been drinking and flying, he would still be alive hehehehe... funny not funny :D
But how could you send him away, when he brought his own cute little red sippy straw!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You making me feel bad now @rwedegis lol!!!
This is a great post with great photos, wish you enjoy your time every day <3
Thank you dear xoxoxo
I love the opportunity for win-win-win, when it presents itself! Looks like a grand time was had by all!
Funny, I actually remember that species of butterfly from when I was a kid and we were living in Kenya! Don't recall if we had any drunken ones...
LOVE your photos of those winter days you're having, and the beautiful scenery around here! It's a blessing to live in a scenic place, and I feel it's important to pause and appreciate just that, as we wander through our daily lives.
