Third #ulog. Birthday, Legos, Mowing...Life

in #ulog6 years ago

#ulog It's been eight days since the last post. It's been one of the stranger weeks for sure.

  • Lily turned 7 on July 4th
  • My wife's sister came into town
  • The pool is finally up for the season
  • We had Lily's birthday party this past weekend.

The July 4th Week is always one filled with a myriad of emotions. It's a very happy time because we celebrate Lily's life and I'm also thankful for having a healthy daughter. It's a time for reflection about where we are as a country. It's also a time of remembrance for those who've shed blood, sweat, and tears for the freedom we do have.

I try to be positive, but it's during these times the stress becomes overwhelming and many memories flood in and my PTSD seems to peak. This is bad timing. This is the week I really have to push myself to stay involved with the family because it's a very important for my daughter. There is cake to eat, presents to play with, and fireworks to set off.

I didn't go to the fireworks show and I'm glad I didn't. There was a firework malfunction and my wife said "the ground was shaking" because of how low the fireworks exploded to the ground. Kari thought it was the "grand-finale" because there were so many fireworks that exploded prematurely.

Lily wanted a Red Velvet Cake with Almond Butter Cream Icing for her birthday. She also requested it have a unicorn on it. Kari made the cake and her sister from out of town decorated it.

Lily was really looking forward getting a Lego Set for her birthday. She was really happy when she opened it. We started working on it as soon as she got home.

This set has almost 600 pieces. It has pizza, pineapples, cherries, slides, money, storage lockers, a working diving board...it's one of the most detailed Lego sets I have ever seen.

It took her three days to finish it. I was really proud of her because she would work on it for a few hours and then go swimming and when she would get back home...she would start working on it some more. She finally finished it this morning

This is a video of her giving a tour

Frankie has made leaps and bounds on learning to use the zero turn mower this summer. He mowed the whole back yard by himself.

Overall, I managed to "stay in the game" over the last week. Many things I normally do had to take the back seat so I could be there for my family while dealing with the overwhelming feeling of stress. I did sleep in quite a bit and spent a lot of time trying to keep my mind in a positive place.

Happy Birthday to Lily!! Awesome cake!

And good job building the Legos structures. I liked the video tour of the pool, showers and hamburger shop. Looks like a lot of fun to build and play with!

Good job Frankie on mastering the mower!

Happy 4th of July and nice to hear your positive family stories. :)

I missed seeing this whole page of replies somehow. I will be sure to tell Lily you wished you a happy Birthday. This lego set is one of my personal favorites out of all the sets the children have put together. This one has really their interest and even Frankie has gotten his trucks involved and it's a movable water park now.

Frankie has already been asking when it is time to mow ago. I am so lucky that he enjoys it.

Nice post thanks for share.

Lily and i arw birthday mates. Awesome.!
Send my warmest hugs to her all the way from Asia. And i had a red velvet cake too. What a coincidence.
Mine was celebrated at a centre that cares for children with cancer here in Cebu City Philippines, it was the best.

That is a really awesome coincidence! I will have to share with her what you have told me. Your birthday celebration sounds wonderful. Thank you for sharing. And *Happy Belated Birthday!

I feel your 4th of July pain like many other vets do @lexikon082
Unlike living in East Texas where fireworks season was year round, I now live in so remote of a location that I didn't hear anything on the 4th, which I was fine with.
Your kid is making me insanely jealous of that zero turn as I spend hours at the end of each day keeping on top of keeping our 5 acres mowed with a push mower =p
When it gets hard to "keep your head in the game" one thing I try is seeing the world through my son's eyes. Then I realize that he is actually seeing the world through my eyes and that usually works to snap me out of a mental fog.

I will keep that suggestion in mind. A little under 5 acres is what I mow and I couldn't imagine push mowing it. That is a lot of heart and dedication. I still spend about 4 to 5 hours a week mowing and string trimming. We've let the bushes go a little bit this year. It has been insanely hot this June

Yeah this heat is killer. My clothing is dripping in sweat by the time I'm done. I spend all day drinking water and gatorade just to survive the mowing. I'm gonna look for some netting to put over my head since I've gotten to where my body can handle the heat and humidity and sweating to get the day's mowing done but the gnats and flies getting sucked into my lungs with every breath I take is getting to be more than I can handle. Here's looking forward to fall and the first frost. No more grass growing, no more insects. Sounds fucking awesome.
