"Ulog #4 : Making a Letter of Advice for my Daughter"

I just think of making a letter of advice for my daughter in my free time today. Then when she grow up, she will read this one by one and knows and understand exactly what I am saying. Because for me, these letters are treasures. Treasures that you can keep for a long time but the essence and thoughts are still there.

Dear Younger Me (advice for my daughter),

Compassion, generosity, understanding, integrity and tolerance are import qualities to have. But never let anything compromise your own happiness. Always do what makes you happy. Never bend on this point. It is the single most important piece of advice I can give.

Travel the world. Seek out new cultures. Experience things for yourself. Don't believe everything that you read. Where you grow up is a tiny drop in the ocean to how the world really works. Never think your culture is any better than another. All counties and cultures have something to offer. Even if you have to look hard to find it.

Fall in love, but with the right person. If someone loves you they will never control you. They will support everything you do in life. You should return this support in kind. Be one with your partner but always keep your individuality and independence as well.

Work for yourself. Be your own boss. True financial independence doesn't come from making someone else money. If you fail, simply try again. Invest in things that generate income for you immediately. Debt is a bad thing. Save up and buy something outright that brings you in money without you having to do anything. This is financial security.

Have kids. They are a true blessing. But remember they are also individuals. You can't control them. You can only pass on what you have learnt. So be sure to live and experience as much as possible before you decide to take on the responsibility of being a mother.

Don't follow the crowd. Always have your own original thought, even if it isn't popular. You don't need to fit in. You just need to be you. People are attracted to confidence, integrity and leadership. It is easy to make friends, but hard to have true friendships. So be loyal. Be there for your friends, yet don't expect it returned. Always remember true generosity is giving while expecting nothing in return. And this is ok because you will know you acted with the qualities I outlined to begin with.

Sincerely Yours,
Mom
