Forest Portal

From farmlands and residential houses, we entered a forest portal where there are huge Mahogany trees lining up the road. It is the man-made Mahogany forest between Bilar and Loboc.

Being “inside” this 2-kilometer stretch of lush mahogany gives out a beautiful feeling. It is like seeing a kaleidoscope of thick red and white mahogany trees and wild fern. Plus there's a canopy of flourishing leaves blocking the sun's rays. And in a hot summer day, we could never fail to miss the darker and cooler ambiance these trees give.

Our driver-slash-tour-guide said that the mahoganies were planted in response to the distressing kaingin done then. He furthered that way back 1940s these efforts of reforestation was passed on to local officials. Would you believe, these trees are more than half a century old already!

However, there is no decent parking lot for the tourists to take pictures of these green giants. We were fortunate enough though that there were only few vehicles passing in the highway that we were able to take a picture.

Sandugo

Next, we stopped by this historical site - Sandugo. It is just a statue alright. But what is special about this is knowing what or who these statues represent and why.

image

The Sandugo was a blood compact, performed in the island of Bohol in the Philippines, between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol on March 16, 1565, to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. This is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos. "Sandugo" is a Visayan word which means "one blood".

Yup, it was like travelling back in time with a magnificent view of the Bohol Sea on the background. Like an evidence that you have seen history, click on your camera and pose while enjoying the cool sea breeze.

Best Pasalubong-ever! Peanut Kisses

These Kisses are a big hit to tourists and locals. I personally cannot get enough of it. Aside from the chocolate hills-like formation, it is crispy and tastes really good. It is made of high-quality peanuts and eggyolks.

As promised, we were taken to a factory in the city where they really sell peanut kisses at a lower price.

See you later, Bohol

I promised myself to be back. I haven't been to Panglao yet nor see and watch the dolphins at Bohol Sea. I have not crossed the hanging bridge in Tigbao yet nor swam in the cool waters of Hinagdanan Cave. There is just so much to see and do.

Time does fly when you are having fun. It was really a memorable trip. There is just so much yet to see around this humble place. Maybe next time, we could spend the night and really immerse ourselves with the frienfly Boholanos.

This is the end of our day trip to the "Island of Chocolate Kisses". With a heavy heart, we boarded our way back to Cebu.

No goodbyes only see you later.

Brother Terry a.k.a. @surpassinggoogle is behind this great initiative. He has been a supportive and kind person too. So without second thoughts, I give my SUPPORT to him as a WITNESS by voting him at https://steemit.com/~witnesses.

You can do the same by voting for him. You simply type in "steemgigs" at the first search box. Or you can give him witness voting decisions on your behalf, by typing in "surpassinggoogle" in the second box as a proxy, just like what I did.

I also support his projects @teardrops SMT and @steemgigs.

Congrats for being featured by @trufflepig! I hope I can visit that place too. Great initiative for the locals to plant mahogany trees. I think we should do that everywhere too. There should be a tree planting for every place we visit.

Sometimes history can be one sided or what the writer only wants to write then. That is why it makes me question what really happened. Just like Sandugo if the account is really true.

Thanks @leeart. Well, you should visit the place too. And with that manmade forest, what is awesome about it is how cooperative the policians were in continuing the effort of the previous administration.

I do not know much about the Sandugo, and only believe what's written on the textbooks.

That is how a city becomes prosperous because of how the governing bodies see eye to eye. That is appreciable for sure.
