Steemit Sailing Munday

Hooray Sailing season has finally started in the frozen wasteland surrounding Lake Ontario. We are moving down the coast a couple miles to a new club and a new bigger boat. That made for one HELL of a drive through Toronto in rush hour taking 2 full hours to get there.......Can't say I am prepared to drive 2 total hours a night to sail every week but we will see.

The new boat, as mentioned in the last blog, is a Hanse 34. I think this http://hanseyachts.hr/range/hanse-345/#info is a newer model of the boat but you get the idea. Much larger than the J-27 I spend so many years on and will likely race in Regattas this summer. http://www.jboats.com/j27-performance

Here is a look at my new office. You HAVE to handle the winches on a boat this size so no more olympic scale rope pulling for me.

Here is a view from the Point End (technically the fore-deck but we keep things simple)

Andy is closing the play-pen so we don't fall out while we are hiking.

Another big change is the Spinnaker that we launch nice and easily from a bag/sock on the foredeck.

We got the tub really moving as you may be able to tell from the angle (wind forcing the main over to starboard.

All in all, it was great to be back on the water again. Plus.....

Skipper sprung and got us new gear for the J-fest regatta!

What would you do with your winter/offseason if it was as long there as it is in Canada? Gotta be something along the lines of this....

Congrats on going out with the new book and good luck with the switch to winches! There are times when you are essentially deadlifting for that last cm of trim... haha.

True. On the J-27, I would have to BFI (Brute Force and Ignorance) the jib around and just used the winches for the last inch or so if wind was hard enough to stop me from getting them on properly.

This feels like luxury racing compared to that!

Nice! I see its not a Hawaiian shirt weather yet...
So was this a regatta or just a prep for it? cause i didnt see any boats other than yours. Also welcome to winch handling :D its a great workout, especially if you dot reel them in fast enough

Yah the REAL fast shirts are saved for the regatta.

This is just normal club racing on Wednesdays. My 2+hour commune made me a bit late and the other boats were on the course already. I will make sure to get some snaps of the rest of the fleet next time I am out.......after making it there on time.
