COOL STUFF FROM TODAY’S “CLASS”:

  • Met a long time friend at the beach. Found out he’s married now and has a baby on the way. He’s interested in talking more about unschooling together, as he, like me, questions and is opppsed to traditional, force-based educational methods/models.

  • Met two guys from the states on vacation here in Japan. One is into voluntarily organized collectives and the other a doctor fresh out of med school. They played with Z-bee (my son) and we had a nice chat. I told them about Steemit and we shared contact info.

  • A couple came with their dog who loved to swim! Isaiah was able to throw the stick for the doggo who then promptly fetched it for him.

I’m really grateful for this time I can spend with my son. There’s tons to do, and tons to explore!
Today we also talked about the word “translucent,” and broke down the word:

trans - “through” or “across”
lucent - Having to do with light.

Somehow we had gotten on the topic of his idea for a “ham diamond” which is a “200% nutritious” gemstone made of ham which is also “clear pink.” 😆

I taught Z-bee the word “translucent” as related to the “ham gem” and he seemed pretty into that, and repeated it.

Awesome. How is homeschooling looked upon in Japan btw? In Norway it's considered child abuse...unless you leave your kid in indoctrination camps where they learn nothing of value..you are probably being kept an extra eye on - because if you're not embracing socialism, or even ask questions...well, you must clearly be a little kokoo in the head :)

Well, here it is sort of a legal grey area, but nobody really bothers anyone about it too much. Children have, according to the Japanese constitution, a right to a quality education, but what kind of education this is is not specified. As such, one can generally unschool/homeschool here, as long as the parents are not flagrantly and blatantly keeping a child or holding them back from learning/an education.

Same as here. In sweden however it's illegal to homeschool. lol

But even if it's legal to homeschool in Norway, it's still frowned upon. It's OK if you are highly educated and rich and travel with your kids to experience the world. That is simply fantastic, and you can tell your socialists friends in your rich neigbhourhood that. :D

That Unschooling office looks very cool. Hahaha. It caused me to go to school ... Your child looks very happy. God bless you.

Thanks! And you too!
