Upcycling bedside drawers (Part 3)

in #upcycling5 years ago (edited)

Work on the drawers are at stand still while I continue my search for the perfect drawer pulls.

It seems perhaps crystal (geodes, agate slices etc) are too ambitious considering I need to physically go to a shop and get 18 pieces of whatever I decide on, and none of my suppliers are open on weekends.

I'm not quite ready to give up though.

Instead I'm moving on to the dressers.

These babies..

Another Gumtree purchase (think Craigs List for aussies) we picked up a while ago.

Although not solid timber, it's great solid construction with thicker mdf. It's not like some of the flimsy flat packs that seem to saturate the market these days.

As you can see they're pretty plain and straightforward. No fancy trims or borders ~ its very standard.

I can't have "standard" not when I went to town with the drawers. Having this as is just isnt going to work so it'll need a bit more work than just a paint job.

Here's what I've been thinking.

I've got two options for the trims.

  1. Tape myself a 2cm border on the drawers and paint the copper border on.

  2. Buy 2cm wide mouldings, cut them to size, paint them copper and nail them on to the drawers.

I'd prefer something with more personality than that but I'll need to go to Bunnings and have a look at what they have. I'm thinking I may even need them to shave a few centimetres off the width of a moulding, depends on which one I decide on.

Another thing I need to do is add a slab of mdf with a rounded edge to place on top of the drawers adding a second lip to the top making it stick out a bit more, sort of how the drawers are.

I've spent the rest of the week gearing up for resin work and who knows when I'll have time to empty the dresser and paint but Im hoping by March this project will be finished.

Next week I'm hoping to be back on here sharing my latest creations.

Key word there is "hoping" lol

I'm off to sage the house today. Might take a short vid so I can sage Steemit too. See how I go.

Have a fab Friday my people!
