Half Dome Rock - Yosemite

This is a photograph of a distant Half Dome Rock In Yosemite National Park taken from Glacier Point. We were lucky on the day we visited as there weren't too many other tourists so I was able to get some clear shots.

Half Dome is a granite monolith standing at 8,842 feet in height and a full 4,733 feet above the valley floor.

The valley was formed from glacial activity (note the grooves in the foreground of the picture) but the upper portion of Half Dome was high enough so that it was never covered by glacial ice. As a result it didn't suffer from the carving action that lower portions of the valley experienced. Approximately 700 feet of the mountain remained above the level of the highest glacier.

howdy there @gillianpearce! hey when were you over here? Ever been to the real state, Texas? hahaha! gorgeous photo of course, I don't think I've been here all week and I don't like that! gonna change that this week. God bless you!

Hi @janton. I lived in Seattle for a couple of years and have visited many different states at different times but not Texas. It would be too hot for me I think.

ahha! so you HAVEN'T been to God's country! see that's what you're missing. why in the world would you want to live in Seattle for? except for the coffee, that's about it!
nah, you just come here in the winter, it's heavenly for 9 months out of the year, 3 are bad.

So what temperature is it in the heavenly nine moths @janton? 😁

hi there gillianpearce! well the winter months of Jan and Feb have hights in the 50's then they average about in the 70's up till June when it starts getting hot but the average for those 9 months would be in the 70's so dang near perfect, a great place to live except in June, July and Aug if you don't like heat. lol. bless you.

It sounds quite nice then @janton except June, July and Aug, as you say. 😊

yes Ma'am it is. well a pool and a good air conditioner takes care of the hot months!

Cool place Yosemite ....
