Project Details

Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser... Node.js allows the creation of Web servers and networking tools using JavaScript and a collection of "modules" that handle various core functionality... Node.js represents a "JavaScript everywhere" paradigm, unifying web application development around a single programming language, rather than different languages for server side and client side scripts.

In simple words, this project brings value to the open source community because it facilitates the creation of all sort of applications using JavaScript, and provides a lot of help and versatility to developers. If you want to know more about this project feel free to visit its website.

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview

This is my twentieth contribution to Node.js, I am working on the folder named CHANGELOG_V6.md and right now it is 28% completed. This folder has all the information regarding every change in Node.js V6, this is why the folder is quite extensive, it contains a lot of strings with short indications about every single change. The strings also have the name of the person who proposed each change.

Since these strings tend to have some technical words, there were a few terms that were left untranslated with the goal of preserving the original meaning of the text.

I added a few examples of the translated strings:

English

[<0>c309bb0695</0>] - <1>test</1>: validate error message from buffer.equals (Sebastian Roeder) <2>#11215</2>

Spanish

[<0>c309bb0695</0>] - <1>test</1>: validar mensaje de error de buffer.equals (Sebastian Roeder) <2>#11215</2>

English

[<0>29d35d0ef1</0>] - <1>test</1>: use dynamic port instead of common.PORT (Aditya Anand) <2>#12473</2>

Spanish

[<0>29d35d0ef1</0>] - <1>test</1>: usar puerto dinámico en vez de common.PORT (Aditya Anand) <2>#12473</2>

English

[<0>9e9a9c342c</0>] - <1>test</1>: increase bufsize in child process write test (Rich Trott) <2>#13626</2>

Spanish

[<0>9e9a9c342c</0>] - <1>test</1>: incrementar tamaño de buffer en prueba de escritura de proceso secundario (Rich Trott) <2>#13626</2>

When working on this contribution I was able to learn the following concepts:

Segfaults: A segmentation fault (aka segfault) is a common condition that causes programs to crash; they are often associated with a file named core. Segfaults are caused by a program trying to read or write an illegal memory location. | Source

Linkify: is a class that lets you create links from a TextView or a Spannable. You can create links not just to web pages, but also to locations on the map, emails and even phone numbers. | Source

In the previous contributions, I included the definition of these terms: deprecation, I/O - input/output, callback, asynchrony, POSIX, parsing, path, wildcard, wrapper function, stack trace, floating point value, error-first callbacks, transpilation tool, root certificate, little-endian, DNS rebinding, same-origin-policy, keep-alive behavior, stringification, arrow function, salt (cryptography), semver, lint, fixtures modules, newline, backporting, shell command, ES6 Classes , code refactoring, segfault, tarball, benchmark, type-check, deflate, char, aix, spawn, rehash, noop, rebasing and continuous integration.
