Android music applications - Bop music player

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

Special greetings to you all.
It’s nice to be back after 11 days of absence.
I have spent most of the past 11 days on the road and music has been my constant companion.
Many people listen to music for various reasons. While some listen to songs for inspiration, others listen to it for the joy it provides in times of boredom. I don’t know what makes you listen to songs. I’m here to give you options on some open source music applications that will help you enjoy your songs.
This is a new series that will focus solely on different open source Android music players.
I hope to give you different options for android music players and also give suggestions on how the developers can improve them.

This is the first post of this series and I am kick-starting this series with an android application known as Bop - music player.

What is Bop-music player?

I can define a bop-music player as a lightweight music player that enables users to play audio files on their Android devices.
Bop–music player supports a lot of audio formats, it also automatically scans and arrange all music files according to the album, artist, genre and title.

Features of Bop–music player

A music player’s basic feature is the ability to read and play audio files. So many applications carry out this same function. The numerous players available make it hard for some players to gain popularity. It also makes the different developers become innovative in other to come up with additional features.

These additional features are the main reason certain users prefer a certain android music application over some other ones.
The developers did not leave the Bop-music player out in this race; I have been able to note features in the application, and I will share it below.

Excellent user interface

Maybe I am not supposed to give it the ‘excellent’ mark because nothing is perfect. Human beings are never perfect even though we love perfection. Only God is perfect.
The Bop–music player’s user interface is so cool and I lack words to express it. The developers really did a great job on this one. I love the first interface that a user gets in contact with immediately they launch the application.

The image of the headset with music waves connecting the two ends of the headset really turns me on. You can find this image while waiting for the application to complete loading the homepage.

The homepage is cool and easy to navigate. It has seven static pages, the last page a user engaged with before exiting the application becomes the start page on the users’ next application lunch.
The seven pages include:

  • Bop–music player.
  • Songs page.
  • Playlist page.
  • Genres page.
  • Albums page.
  • Artists page.
  • Files page.

The user can switch between these pages by swiping either left or right on your android device screen.

Apart from the homepage, the general user interface of the application in other places is also cool.
For example, I love the interface I get when a piece of music is being played.
The developers made the play interface in a way that constantly reminds me of the origin of music. The rotating disk-like feature reminds me of the days where the round disc had to rotate in players in other for songs to play.

I derive so much pleasure in watching the disc rotate while the song duration signal gradually fills the provided space in an arch pattern.
The different music rhythm patterns also help me interact with the application.

The user interface of the Equalizer is another beautiful feature.
The design is sleek and beautiful. The colour combination makes it easy for anyone to adjust the settings.
I hope you now see why I gave the developers an excellent score regarding the user interface.

Well-positioned buttons

It is important for every music application to have the basic function buttons placed in a visible location. That means the user should not have to go looking for the pause or play button when the need arises. Bop–music player has done well in this aspect. They have been able to place all the important buttons like shuffle, skip, rewind, repeat, pause, play and fast forward in a visible place.

The application even has the pause, play, and forward button in the drop-down menu. This makes it possible for me to pause, play, skip, or close the application from the drop-down menu. That alone goes a long way in eliminating the stress involved in having to visit the application in other to execute any of the commands mentioned above.

Equalizer

The presence of the Equalizer feature in this application is an added advantage to the users. Different people have a different taste for music. Bop–music player has made it possible for all the user to choose how he/she wants the music to sound. The application has 11 different options to choose from including a custom option. The custom options enable users whose interest and taste are not in the default 10 options to create and configure their own option.

The developers did not just stop there; They provided users with a button that enables them to adjust the bass content and the 3D content of the song.
They make the last two buttons in such a way that the user feels as he/she is turning a real volume button.
With the help of the button at the top right corner of the page, the user can decide to either activate the Equalizer feature or deactivate it. Swiping it left deactivates it while swiping it right activates it.

Colour and Theme customization

Judging from my previous blog post, you all can know how much I love the freedom of choosing my own colours. Any application that enables me to tweak the application colours to suit my taste is always my MVP. Bop–music player has made a feature that provides me with the opportunity to select the colour I want in the application.

The only bad side is the inability to change the full background colour.
In my previous series on simple mobile tools, every application in that series gave its users the privilege of choosing their background colours.
I could change every other colour combination in the application to suit my taste.

The developers also made it possible for the user to change the theme.
There are basically two options present in the theme settings. The user can either go with the ‘day’ option or with the ‘night’ option. I use the ‘day’ option during the day because it makes the application bright while I use the ‘night’ option whenever my environment is not too bright.
I’ll advise everyone to follow my pattern, especially in the night to avoid too much exposure of the eyes to the screen brightness of their device.

Conclusion, Observations and Suggestions

In conclusion, I believe the Bop–music player is worth checking out.

While using the application, I discovered that it sometimes crashes, especially when I try to execute numerous commands in quick succession.

I suggest that the developers look into the stability part of the application in other to eliminate the crash issues.

The second issue I observed was the inability of the player to play selected files from the ‘file folder’ page. I could solve this issue by playing the said file from the “songs” page.

I recommend that the developers make it possible to play files from the ‘file folder’ page without having to go through the ‘songs’ page.
I also suggest that the developers make it less stressful for users to create and add songs to their playlist.

This application would also be better if the developers removed the Equalizer editing options of other applications inbuilt settings apart from the custom one.
I don’t see the need for the custom feature since I can edit every other option.

Hello, @dongentle2!

Thank you for this contribution. This is a great music player, and I am glad that you decided to create an informative blog post about Bop. The post is also well-illustrated with quality images.

In terms of content, I think it's fair to say that you did a really good job. Your review contains valuable information about the project, as well as your personal knowledge, views and suggestions; this is the kind of editorial content we like to see in blog posts. Keep up the good work.

That said, the writing of this post was not good enough, I'm afraid. There were serious issues of style and proofreading, and I'd be happy to cite a few examples in a follow-up comment, if you wish. Furthermore, I noticed that you marked this post as the first one of an upcoming series of blog posts about different music players, however we have decided that a good series should be focused on one specific project.

Regardless, you did a good job in providing useful information about the project, and I appreciate the effort you put into your work. I look forward to your next contribution.

Thank you @lordneroo for your review.... I would be happy to see the mistakes that made the post hard to read and difficult to comprehend.... I know I'm in no position to decide how you feel but I think the below average is a better option for this post.
