Analysis Of Steemians Activities For The Month of April, 2018
Repository
The purpose of this analysis is to analyze the overall activities Steemians did in the month of April, 2018 and comparing them with the previous month to get an idea if engagement of users on this platform is increasing or decreasing. It includes a general analysis of posts, comments, resteems, author rewards for the month of April, 2018 and then comparing each activity with the previous month. Does the number of posts and comments affect the total author rewards? In this analysis, I tried to find the answer of this question. Adding to that, analysis of top 20 categories in terms of author rewards and top 20 authors in terms of author rewards is included comparing each with the previous month. Top 20 posts in terms of author rewards and promoted tab analysis is also a part of this post.
Data Collection
All the data was extracted from Steem SQL Database (Paid subscription service held and managed by @arcange). The data was taken from March 1, 2018 to March 31, 2018 and April 1, 2018 to April, 30, 2018. SQL queries that were used to extract the data can be found at the end of this post.
General Analysis of Posts, Comments, Resteems & Author Rewards
Overall, we can see a declining trend in the number of posts, comments and resteems in the month of April, 2018 when compared the same activities with the previous month. The number of posts were 16.88% less as compared to the number of posts in the month of March, 2018. Same goes to the number of comments and resteems where a decrease of 14.39% and 4.86% can be seen respectively. However, I was surprised to see an upward trend in the total author rewards. In the month of April, 2018, the amount of total author rewards were 3,593,526 which is 33.10% more than the previous month. This number is surprising since the total number of comments and posts in the month of April were less as compared to the previous one.
Top 20 Categories Analysis
There were total 55770 categories I found for the month of April, 2018 and top 20 of them took 44.03% of the total rewards which is around 1,582,238. The total author rewards for the top 20 categories for the month of March, 2018 were 1,064,773 that makes almost 44.29% of the total rewards (2,403,866). We can see that the percentage of author rewards shared by the top 20 categories is almost the same in both these months. Photography remained the top category in April and March with the total author rewards of 187,040 and 116,556 respectively.

Top 20 Posts In Terms Of Author Rewards
I will not include the bot factor in this part since this is a whole new topic and would be covering it in my next analysis. Below you can see the table of top 20 posts in terms of receiving the most author rewards. Jonny-clearwater & burnpost came twice in this list. One interesting thing, I used the same query as I did for this post. In the month of March, 2018, there were only 1586 posts whose author rewards were more than 100 but in the month of April, 2018, posts whose author rewards were more than 100 went to 4736, an increase of 66.51%.

Promoted Post Analysis
747 posts were promoted with a total of 400 SBDs in the month of April, 2018 (Average SBD spent on each post was 0.53) Total comments on these promoted posts were around 1020 making an average of 1.36 comments per post. I already shared an analysis of Promoted Posts From March 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018 where we saw that the engagement on promoted posts is usually low. Adding to that, the author rewards of 17 posts out of top 20 promoted posts in terms of most SBDs spent was actually 0, means these authors weren't able to earn a single penny on spending their SBDs due to their low quality/spammy content. The number of SBDs spent on promoted posts is not directly related to the author rewards and we can see that people spending less SBDs got some good author rewards. Below you can find different tables that I extracted from the promoted posts data to give you a clear picture about the performance of promoted tab.

Conclusion
Though the total number of posts, comments and resteems decreased in the month of April, 2018 when compared to the previous one, however, we can see an increase of 33.10% in the total author rewards this month. The decrease in the number of posts and comments affected the total author rewards in the opposite direction. Top 20 categories still hold the 44.03% of the total author rewards this month which almost the same as we noticed in the previous month (44.29%). An increase of 0.49% happened this month as far as the top 20 author's share in the total author rewards is concerned which is something to worry about. Posts that had author rewards more than 100 increased substantially in the month of April and the reason might be more and more people using bid bots to buy upvotes. The quality of promoted posts is still low, people are trying to promote their spammy, low quality content in the promoted section and in return getting flags from different accounts. The engagement is also quite low on prmoted posts. In short, overall activity and engagement by users on Steemit decreased in the month of April, 2018.

Woooooow Danke schön 💗
Hello @ghulammujtaba, thank you for the contribution. However, as per Utopian rules, contributions must be unique.
However, your data overlaps with two reports and the message from it is basically the same with the following:
I also had a hard time understanding your report because of the excessive rows in the tables. Before I was able to read your next sentence, I had to do a couple of page or scroll downs which by the time I've reached your next sentence, I already forgot what the previous was.
Your analysis also did not have an outline and the conclusion was poorly formatted (all sentences were included in one paragraph) which made it difficult to understand.

All submitted contributions must be unique. Users must check if an identical or very similar contribution has been previously submitted.
However, your data overlaps with two reports and the message from it is basically the same with the following:
April Steemit Post Benchmarking Report – BlockChain Business Intelligence
Steemit Statistics – 2018.05.13
These posts don't include the comparison of the following analysis with the previous month plus paulag made a comparison with April, 2017.
Category comparison with the previous month, Comparison of Top 20 Authors In Terms Of Author Rewards with the previous month and percentage of rewards taken by top 20 authors from the total author rewards in both the months.
I also had a hard time understanding your report because of the excessive rows in the tables. Before I was able to read your next sentence, I had to do a couple of page or scroll downs which by the time I've reached your next sentence, I already forgot what the previous was.
I'm sorry but it's not my problem, according to Utopian rules, we have to give as much details as possible in the form of charts and tables and that's what I did. Being a moderator, I guess this is your job. I am not trying to be rude but this reason doesn't make any sense here. I just tried to give as much information as I could.
Your analysis also did not have an outline and the conclusion was poorly formatted (all sentences were included in one paragraph) which made it difficult to understand.
Where in the Utopian rules is written that we have to make different paragraphs or bullets for our conclusion? If you want, I can do it in order list in just 2 minutes. This again doesn't seem to be the reason for rejection.
Adding to that, analysis of promoted posts wasn't in the above two posts you mentioned.
In short, I see my analysis quite different from the examples you quoted and would like you to reconsider your decision.
Thanks.
@ghulammujtaba I am not here to reject contributions, I am here to make sure that contributions meet Utopian quality standards. The comments I made above are just observations from a reader's view. Did you have this contribution proof-read by another? If not, then just take my comments above as proof-reading.
I already re-scored your contribution, but honestly, you need to consider the points I mentioned above. I have to be straight to the point.
I suggest changing your attitude with this. Blaming the rules won't improve your contribution.
This is the point that bothers me. Including more information does not automatically make a contribution more meaningful. The quality of an analysis comes from the importance of the question being answered, the method how data was extracted, and how the results were presented to answer the question.
Sorry, this is another disturbing question. Don't be too dependent on the rules to make your contribution of high quality. It's just common sense if you want your reader to understand your points.
As an author, it is your job to make your analysis and findings understandable for your reader. And it is our job as moderators to make sure that contribution meet those standards.
Sorry if my writing comes across as rude, but this is the best I can muster without weakening the points I want to put across.
Hey @ghulammujtaba
Thanks for contributing on Utopian.
We’re already looking forward to your next contribution!
