Utopian Anti-Abuse Category Weekly Overview: 30 May - 6 June 2019

in #utopian-io5 years ago

Good day for a @utopian-io community report.

Metrics: Week

Time period: 30 May 2019 - 6 June 2019

  • 5 contributions processed
  • Mean score of 81.4 and median of 85
  • Highest score of 100 and lowest of 59

All contributions were scored fairly and impartially in accordance with Utopian policies and guidelines and incorporating a predefined set of questions specific to the anti-abuse category.

Contributions

59@anthonyadavisii@ilgiaguaroRead Post
100@guiltyparties@enforcer48Read Post
85@anthonyadavisii@jaguar.forceRead Post

It looks like five contributions per week is our ongoing lucky number. This is a particularly mixed week with some contributions scoring lower than others. Overall, the range of contributions has been quite promising and the scores themselves shouldn't be seen as reflective of how hard the contributors worked on fighting abuse.

Active Assessors for the Week

Metrics: 2019

The highest month for contributions was April with 20 posts; the lowest was January with 7. May was getting close with 18 but wasn't able to catch up to April. Not sure yet what the future for June holds, but hoping we'll see more good contributions going forward.

The total sum of all 2019 contributions stands at 77 to date. (Four of those were subsequently rejected for various reasons but are still included in these numbers as having been received.) The rejections all happened earlier on and not in recent months, when the quality of contributions generally increased.

A total of 18 contributors made posts under the @utopian-io anti-abuse category so far this year. This still stands true today. The top contributor is @jaguar.force with 15 valid contributions. We hope we'll see more contributions from the other anti-abuse writers in the future as well as from new faces on the anti-abuse scene.

A total of 5 different assessors were responsible for evaluating and moderating the contributions for 2019. Currently, there are three active assessors monitoring the category.

So far, a total of 4 contributions were rejected as wholly invalid for the category and were thus not assessed. This number hasn't changed from last week or the week prior and hopefully will not change in the future. We don't want to get invalid contributions.

Optimization Tools for Contributors

  • StackEdit - web-based markdown editor for those who dislike hackmd (menu screenshot below)
  • Google Fusion Tables - available only until the end of the year, this online Google tool takes your data and charts it (similar to pivot tables)

Every week I'll change these up so watch this space.

Good Contributions to the Anti-Abuse Category

A good contribution doesn't have to be on a particularly pressing anti-abuse subject to be relevant. For example, you don't have to write about investigating plagiarism or something where you've personally gotten your hands dirty and put yourself at risk.

A good contribution will typically have the following checked off:

  • The post will be interesting to read (you don't want to have the reader give up halfway through because of boredom)
  • The post will be by someone who knows the anti-abuse landscape of the Steem ecosystem
  • The writer will evidently care about the anti-abuse topic they are writing about
  • The post will have some helpful metrics or images to guide the reader
  • The post will strive to educate the reader on how to recognize abuse and empower them to fight it

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Too many gaps in your narrative. What I mean by this is readers want to know why something is a form of abuse or how you discovered this abuse as having taken place. If you jump straight into the finding without explaining the why then users unfamiliar with the subject will be left wondering what had happened. This leads us into ...
  • Not providing definitions or further reading material for users to familiarize themselves with the form of abuse discussed. Education is a prime way of stopping abuse on the Steem blockchain.
  • Headings, headings, headings. Please use them. Once again: headings.
