eSteem surfer has a new update. [Version number takes a leap. Limited new features suggests eSteem surfer has attained 'stable' status].

in #utopian-io5 years ago

I've been anticipating two things this month. That is; An official Android Pie update for my mobile device, and, an eSteem surfer update. Although the former was the most desired, both of them have been delivered to me, and I'm excited. I got hands-on on the official Android Pie update for my phone today(I know it's really late). And I've been enjoying the new features that came with it. Well, enough of my boring pie story. This article is about one of the updates I anticipated this month. That is; eSteem surfer. It took quite a long time. But, an update finally arrived.
Last week, the project owner announced the new update. When I saw the update's version number, I was a little bit shocked. That's because the last version I used and reviewed was v2.0.7. This new release's version number was v2.1. I felt I had missed two updates before this latest one. I had to rush over to the app's repository on Github to confirm. And it turned out that I had missed nothing. The version number skip was an intentional act by the project owner. I think the idea was for all eSteem-apps to maintain the same version number. eSteem mobile is currently on v2.1. The equilibrium in app version numbers is a good idea. I like it. Well, I'm not here to discuss version numbers. In this article, I'll be talking about the recent update.

Without further ado let's delve into the review

Review of eSteem surfer v2.1

source

As I've always done in all my reviews of eSteem-apps, I'll first list out the changelog of this version.

  • New Pointing system integration
  • New Success & error indicator added to schedules
  • New Posting permission error handler
  • Improved Catch entry image improvements
  • Improved Render helpers
  • Fixed Active account bug
  • Fixed Reblog button

These are the changes or updates in this release. You can see that there aren't many things to talk about in this update. There are only 3 new features, improvements on existing features, and 2 notable bugs fixed. However, this doesn't stop me from writing my review about it. I'm mostly concerned about the new features, so they'll make up my talking points for this article. There are three new features according to the changelog, but I'll only talk about out of the three.

Pointing system integration.

The 'Pointing system' is one of the most exciting things about eSteem-apps, since the v2 releases started rolling out. It is something I never expected the project owner would delve into. There are other similar apps that have followed this path(pointing system). One of such apps is 'Partiko'. Partiko has a 'pointing system' but I can't quite recall the point reward mechanism that was used there. However, I like the mechanism that eSteem is using. I expressed my approval of the 'point reward' mechanism when I reviewed eSteem mobile v2.1.
For now, we are calling these figures 'points'. But I think they'll be more than that in the future. I think we can also call them(the points) eSteem tokens. I'm not sure, though. But with the way the project owner talked about(titled) it when he announced eSteem mobile v2.1, I can say my assumption is correct.
The 'pointing system' was first introduced on eSteem mobile v2.1. The developer in his announcement said that the point system would be available on eSteem surfer. However, even if you used eSteem surfer(before this update), you'll still be able to get your coins or points. But, you won't be able to see them. But in this new release, you can now see the points you have earned. Although there's no official statement with respect to what we can do with these points, I'm happy to earn them.

New Success & error indicator added to schedules.

This feature is a very minor add-on. I call it minor because I didn't realise that it wasn't available in the previous version. The feature is a simple toast notification that tells if the post you scheduled was a success or not. Even if the toast notification didn't pop-up, there's a way to know if the schedule was successful or not.

These are the new features I can talk about. I said I wasn't going to talk about bug-fixes, but I'll make an exemption for one.

Problems with estimated wallet amount.

esti wallet.png

In the previous version of eSteem surfer, there was a bug that affected the estimated wallet(account) amount. The wallet amount was displayed in standard USD value. I'm Nigerian, and I preferred switching the currency to Naira. However, I discovered that after I changed currency, the value was still in USD. I reported the issue on Github, and it has been fixed. My wallet now shows the correct amount in my preferred currency.

There you have it. My review of eSteem surfer v2.1.

Summary.

In this article, I've been able to review the latest version of eSteem surfer. This should be the shortest review I've written about any app. And particularly about an eSteem-app. Well, the talking points were very limited, but it's not a bad thing. What I've been able to deduce from this update is that the software is on the brink of achieving stability. By stability, I mean almost all the app's features are in place.
In one of my reviews, I talked about 'new features' in the app being limited in each new update. And I think this update is a fulfilment of that prophecy(I can call it that). What we'll mostly see in upcoming updates are improvements and bug-fixes. This isn't peculiar to eSteem surfer, but eSteem mobile as well. Virtually everything is in place on both apps. I don't think amazing new features are coming to any eSteem-app, but I'm hopeful anyway.

If you haven't started using any eSteem-app, install anyone and get started with it. Earn some eSteem points(tokens) today!!!

Hello, Harry!

Thank you for your contribution. I am a huge fan of this project, and it's always good to see all the development being made. The newly added features are sweet, and you managed to compose an interesting post that contains useful information about them. Keep up the good work.

Your review is succinct and well-illustrated with relevant visual content, and your content is unique and personal. It might be one of your shorter reviews, as you rightly pointed out, but it is also a very informative one. I appreciate your commitment to quality.

I also wanted to say that your writing has improved a lot, but the post did have minor issues of style and proofreading. As always, I'd be happy to point out some of those in a follow-up comment, if you wish.

Hello!

I apologize for the slow reply. I will cite a few examples for you:

There are three new features according to the changelog, but I'll only talk about out of the three.

I think you meant to write: "There are three new features according to the changelog, but I'll only talk about two out of the three."

I got hands-on on the official Android Pie update for my phone today.

This one should read: "I got hands on the official Android Pie update for my phone today" , or even "I got hands-on experience of the official Android Pie update for my phone today."

I hope you will find this comment useful.

yes thanks alot
