Is that it? Sage Soul-O and X-Sin
were somewhat surprised at the
Council’s generosity... They were
expecting some much more severe
penalties than this...
Having concluded the verdict,
the overlord Councillor of Diozone (Vollov) intuited to the sage Soul-O and X-Sin:

Nice work, you two!

SAGE SOUL-O INTEGRATED on a large “x” marked marbled dais inside the monumental Council Court at Diopolis, and walked toward the substantiated X-Sin, who was standing on a silvery disk at the center of the rotunda. X-Sin had finished briefing the Council in defense of his unpermitted rescue act, offering reasons why he acted the way he did. But most members of the Council were not impressed by his conduct as they considered his un-authorized act of heroism a grave threat to the safety of their highly concealed civilization. To them, it was a serious matter not to be taken lightly, which, therefore, required serious verdict.

That was why Sage Soul-O was summoned to tender his view about -- as well as his reason for his own involvement in -- the incidence, after which the council would pronounce their verdict. More so because X-Sin was supposed to take orders from him as the Observatory Chief Guard, and not the other way round. An act that was considered insolent and a security risk to the chain of command. An act which carried heavy penalty if he was to be found guilty!

“Ah, sage Soul-O-Ntrostrigodro,” intoned a powerful wave of energy for a voice belonging to one of the seventeen Council Lords of Diozone. The Lords were seated in a circular formation, thereby encircling the two. In front of each of the Lords floated a portable anti-grav electronically adjustable podium that also served as an information device which displayed different symbolic imageries on it. The imageries kept twisting and morphing into other symbolic panorama of living activities in accordance with each Splendio’s blink of official imaginative thoughts. Official in the sense that their private thoughts were Uni-Mindly connected, but transcendentally filtered such that they never reflected on the podium’s screen.

“Supreme Splendio Vollov,” responded the sage with reverence to the powerful voice, then addressing the Council in general, “Supreme Splendios,” then greeting them in the ancient gesture of salutation.

“Mayhaps you would want to explain to the Council,” vibrated Vollov, “why Agent X-Sin acted out of order in his daredevilric drive to rescue a human who apparently has no history in our database; and no record in the Akashic Scroll of Consciousness, either.”

“My lord, it is true that Agent X-Sin acted without my authorization. It is also true that I backed him up. Why? Because I believe he acted in accordance with what he believed was the best course of action under the urgency at hand, which I was inclined to acknowledge.”

“Are you then saying that you approved of his unwarranted and erratic action, even though it may well threaten the security of our community?” demanded Splendio Conda, Mayor of Diopunta City.

“Under the circumstances, yes!”

The sage’s teeth clenched to the realization of the implication of his words. Just listen to yourself defending a machine’s insubordination to duty, he was about to think, then remembered that the super-sensitive activities of his thought-waves, once they vibrated, even slightly, could easily be picked up by all the Council personages present in the Court as they were all Uni-Mindly connected. So he suspended the thought-process before it could even stir up, by glancing defensively at X-Sin, who glanced back at the sage with a deep sense of awe-admiration.

Splendio Conda noticed the surge of concern in X-Sin’s glance and narrowed his eyelashes disapprovingly at them, at suspecting a kind of silent conspiracy of rebellious tendency brewing between the sage and Agent X-Sin. What are these two conspirators up to? his suspicious stare suggested. He leaned forward on his make-shift podium, placing his green-robed folded hands on it, the present motion image on it fading respectively away into blankness. “And you are ready to bear the consequences of such an action?” the Splendio urged on.

“Yes, my Lord.” What are you thinking? the sage wanted to think, but instantly held his thought back, and rather replaced it by folding his hands and pinching his right bicep section with his left fingers so hard that it hurt.

He knew the principle of thought control so very well: in other to halt a thought-wave from stirring, quickly replace it with another field of mental, emotional, or physical activity -- the more traumatic the thought, the more effective -- like a sudden thought of plane crash, a memory of a heavy slap, etc. Or keep your thought-waves vacuum-still and blank of images -- if you can.

Splendio Conda regarded the sage reflectively. Stupid, but brave, he pondered unofficially. He then leaned back, ever relaxed, his podium presumably displaying some pictures of meaningful activities on its screen.

“You do realize that you are placing your position at risk by defending Agent X-Sin?” boomed Vollov, whose form was entirely covered by a glowing black robe with its oversized hood hiding his luminous mist-blue countenance.

“Yes, Overlord.”

“And you could lose this position should you fail to convince us otherwise, since we are not impressed by Agent X-Sin’s act?” supported by Splendio Smekehe of Diollyn City.

“Not to mention that we know absolutely nothing about this strange human whose life was saved -- whether he is a Threat or not to the safety of our civilization?” concurred Splendio Dini of Diorumni City.

“Yes, my Lords.”

“Convinced us then,” posed Splendio Racknashi Ra of Diostetni City: an old, graceful lady with a pleasant frown. Old, yes, but stylishly young at it; like an older version of Cleopatra.

“Thank you, my Lady.” The sage paced across the Court, carefully choosing his words: “In the whole community of Diozone, we have six X Agents. X-Pose, X-Trim, X-Sight, X-Pains, X-Part, and X-Sin. Otherwise known as nemeSIX. Of these six probes, X-Sin is the only Spy-Eye that possesses an independent U-Mind mechanism in his make,” he glanced at X-Sin while still pacing, “and therefore capable of complex logical reasoning like us.”

“Are you then suggesting that Agent X-Sin’s action is a reflection of our collective consciousness?” recommended Splendio Izzontar, Mayor of Dioronto City, in a manner that was more teasing than serious.

“Please allow me to explain, my Lord, that under the very tight spot Agent X-Sin found himself, he had no time to think, no time to spare in logical planning and protocols, and therefore, no time to wait and take orders. All he had time for was to act. And he acted out of instinct. He acted from the heart --”

“How touchy. A cybionic hero with a heart,” joked Izzontar. Sixteen personages laughed briefly to his sense of humor. Vollov was the only Splendio that maintained an expressionless stance: probably because, as a field of energy, he had no face. Or who knows what level of faceless humor he possessed?

At this moment, the sage had stopped pacing. “Umm... I was referring to a metaphorical heart,” he rejoined to Izzontar’s joke, for the sake of formality and clarity, “but I know you all knew that.”

“Yes, we do,” said Izzontar cheerfully.

“I believe that X-Sin acted in a manner any of us could have acted if placed under a similar, sensitive situation.” The sage glanced back, emptying his gaze at the inspired X-Sin, and added: “And that’s what makes him special.”

A pregnant, sneaking silence snailed across the mighty vaulted Court. Sage Soul-O was secretly pleased at the sensation his wisely selected words stirred. He couldn’t have said it any better, and he knew it.

Splendio Belini of Diobu City, as though reading his mind, complemented the sage. “Eloquently spoken, Sage Soul-O-Ntrostrigodro.”

“Thank you, my Lady.”

“I admit I may have done the same if placed under a similar critical situation as Agent X-Sin. After all, we are here to protect Earth, as much as it is also our home now.”

“I appreciate your understanding, my Lady.” Sage Soul-O was silently pleased.

“But you seem to be forgetting that Agent X-Sin was made special for a very special reason: to serve as a super-satellite for all the other X Agents to feed information -- as well as draw intelligence -- from, and act accordingly.”

“Yes my Lady, but --”

“And,” Lady Belini was not done yet, “his primal purpose for being was to serve as an Observatory Probe -- not a Rescue Probe, which is only secondary to his programming. His is to share database information and transmit these info to the most suitable Agent on a stand-by mode capable of pulling the stunt he did himself, thereby endangering his greater call of duty.”

“Yes, but --”

“And that was why he was made with an independent Universal Mind System, so that he could network and copy this special system to other Agents in need at such emergency.”

“Yes my Lady.” The sage was downcast, X-Sin sharing his sympathy.

“And what have you to say in his defense -- and in your defense as well -- Sage Soul-O-Ntrostrigodro?”

“My Lady, Supreme Splendios,” said the sage firmly in spite of his dampened mood, while pacing the marbled floor, “I did go over the record of the rescued incidence a few times to be sure if X-Sin acted wrongly or --”

“There’s no doubt about his action being wrong within the context of his duty,” returned Lady Belini interruptingly, her face furiously calm. “He acted wrongly.”

The sage had stopped pacing once more, and started threading on this new line of thought. “I am convinced that though he acted against protocol, which is considered wrong, he did the right thing.”

Right thing?

“Mind explaining the meaning of that?” countered Lady Belini.

The sage reflected thoughtfully, choosing his words carefully once more. “Yes, my Lady. First, there was no time to transmit the Uni-Mind Intel to any of the other Agents for the simple reason that a micro-second delay could have found the young man dead.”

“A young man who has no history nor prophesy on our Akashic Record,” challenged Lady Belini calmly. “And how are we sure he is not a bug. Or a Threat from Trelon?”

You’re becoming a pain in the ass, the sage was going to think but was wise enough not to think so, as he replaced the thought instead with: “X-Sin would have known, my Lady,” his countenance, calm as a praying mantis.

“Oh, would he now?” scorned the Lady passionlessly. “I hope, for your sake, he is in the right.”

The seventeen Council Chiefs converged in uni-thoughts, telepathically sorting out and carefully considering their verdict, transcendentally blocking X-Sin and Sage Soul-O from being Uni-Mindly connected in their mental discussion. This special moment was a privilege that only they enjoyed, by the virtue of the configured nature of their telepathic network of communication. This was the part that kept the sage at edge...

When they were done, Splendio Delluwa, Mayor of Diovundo City, addressed the suspense-held twosome. “The Supreme Council has decided,” he began, “and the decision is absolute! Hear ye the verdict and learn from it.”

“Agent X-Sin,” boomed Vollov’s voice, “for implementing a cause of action without clearance from your superior, even though you conducted it with the best of intention, you are hereby assigned to guard and protect our guest until we find out who he really is. Agent X-Sight shall temporarily assume your duty as the new Orbit-Probe, and would be upgraded with an independent U-Mind mechanism as well.”

Even as he was speaking, a tiny bluish glow-ball of light started manifesting and floating near X-Sin’s head, taking form as would X-Sin into a young and very salient, Scandinavian-looking man, with an astonishing Venusian handsomeness that very closely challenged X-Sin’s seraphic beauty. His name?

X-Sight.

“You shall, however, retain your own separate U-Mind,” continued Vollov to X-Sin, “and shall operate independently in the course of guarding and protecting our guest. Agent X-Sight,” Vollov’s attention swung momentarily to the second X Agent, “you may proceed with your upgrade.”

X-Sight bowed wordlessly and disintegrated back into nothingness.

“Sage Soul-O-Ntrostrigodro,” Vollov flooded his attention at the sage, “for agreeing with Agent X-Sin’s course of action, you are, therefore, responsible for the welfare of our guest. And you shall treat him well while you carry on your regular duties. As well as to find out all there is to know about him. Understood?”

Is that it? Sage Soul-O and X-Sin were somewhat surprised at the Council’s generosity, not quite believing their ears. They were expecting some much more severe penalties than this. “Yes, Splendio Vollov.” intoned Sage Soul-O, secretly relieved.

Having concluded the verdict, the overlord Councillor of Diozone intuited to the sage and X-Sin in an advanced level telepathic impression that only the two of them could hear: Nice work, you two!
