HOW ULOG IS CHANGING THE WORLD AND MAKING EVERYONE A CELEBRITY

Introduction

This is a continuation of the series in which I will be looking at the performance of dApps built on the steem blockchain.

Today I am looking at Ulogs, an application that has given many people a voice and an opportunity of their own. A voice to express themselves.

What is Ulog.org?

According to the official information from the github repository. Ulog is:

A blockchain-based social network where everyone can create ULOGS, become "true celebrity" (ULOGGERS), have a community of "true fans" and earn a variety of rewards and the currency called "steem".


Ulog was created by @surpassinggoogle, he wanted a platform where everyone could express themselves, tell others about their activities and earn steem. The whole focal point would be on "U" and you only. The mission statement from Ulog is very clear, become a celebrity earn reward in steem.

People were encouraged to serially number their Ulog posts, preferably starting from 001. Ulogs should also come with pictures or videos to give a better understanding to those reading it.

The Ulogs.org interface is looking exactly like that of busy.org I believe since busy.org is opensource, the same code for busy.org was used for ulog.org with little adjustments

NUMBER OF POST

The Ulog application just came into play about four months ago but it has experienced tremendous growth. The bar chart clearly shows this growth.

  • Between June and August 2018, there was an increase of 252.63% in the number of posts.

The drop in September can be matched to the general drop in activities in the whole blockchain. The drop also happened with Steepshot. The drop was majorly caused by two factors:

  • The drop in the price of steem.
  • Also towards the end of the month due to the challenges implementing hardfork 20, users were locked out from performing activities like posting and voting.

MONTHLY CONSISTENCY

This is the part where we talk about users that have made at least one post a month for the last four months. The mission about any application is to attract users and also retain them.

  • Between June and September 2018, there were 3,701 posts were via the Ulogs.org platform from 653 unique authors. This translates to an average of 5 posts per author. Steepshot boasted a better average of about 12 posts per author.

  • About 4.3% of authors have posted at least once every month for the last four months. This is better than that of Steepshot which was 0.45%. The number can be logically referred to as the retained users.

  • 62.3% of authors have posted for only one month for the period under review.

POST TIMING

When carrying out the analysis for Steepshot, I discovered that most posts were made between the hours of 3 pm and 6 pm. But for Ulogs, there is not a major time where most posts are made as posting time is almost evenly distributed within the 24 hours timeframe.

  • The hours between 10 am and 4 pm account for 37% of all post, where is fairer when compared to Steepshot which had 42% of posts made within a three-hour timeframe.

PAYOUT DISTRBUTION

When we make a post on Steem blockchain through any of the applications, we look forward to the payout. The case of Ulog is not an exception. Authors on Ulog earned a total of $4,114 with each post earning an average of $1.1

  • 14% of post earned 0$ while 89% of all posts earned between $0 and $2.
  • The top three earners from Ulog are @eastmael, @sn0white and @immarojas with earnings of $265, $205 and $172 respectively.

POSTS ENGAGEMENT

  • There were a total of 188,062 votes on Ulog posts. The is majorly influenced by voting by curation trail. Curation trail is when a user makes available their account to be used in up-voting contents from a particular community or tag. This is an average of about 50 votes per post.
  • Posts from Ulogs attracted a total of 15,364 comments. This is an average of four comments per post.
  • 24.76% of posts had 0 comments while 73.9% of posts had less than five comments
  • @purpledaisy57 made the highest number of posts with 92 posts, followed by @nayromero with 69 posts and @sn0white with 64 posts.
  • The top 20 Uloggers were responsible for 23.24% of all posts on Ulog.

CONCLUSION

The idea and mission of Ulog are to give everyone a voice and it has not failed in that aspect. People are telling their stories and earning steem. Steem blockchain is made up of people from all fields and corners of the earth. This diversification means whatever you are interested in, you will always see someone talking about it.

Post interactions should be encouraged so as to keep the community active. I have to give a lot of credit to @surpasinggoogle, he resteems a lot of Ulog posts and that helps create more awareness about a post. So far the project has been a success.

I used Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 17 to access the data from STEEMSQL ( a publicly managed database by @arcange ). I also used Microsoft Excel 2016 to create the bar charts.

The data used covers a timeframe of June 2018 to September 2018

This is a decent introduction to Ulogs. However, I am still somewhat confused about the point of Ulogs. "Become a celebrity" is marketing. "Changing the world" is hyperbole. Is there anything significant behind that? I'm still not sure. I think it's about the community, but that is not clearly communicated.

The post itself could have used more editorial content. There is some opinion and analysis, but it's mostly information that is readily available elsewhere. If you think Ulogs is changing the world, I'd like to know about your own experience that convinced you of that.

I will give you the answer in a few days. the concept is "mining the human" and that does adjust the world. I write a post to explain it and I will leave it here. ulogs.org hasn't been announce for use and all posts so far happened organically without promotion. people who have used the site can mostly be considered testers. a core aspect of the site is ulog-subtags and ulog-communities. everyone celebrity doesnt involve marketing. it is how it should be. ulogging makes this known but moreso, ulogging is a simple fun art that mines the human into its awesomest version. ulog is a form of content that doesnt resource from the internet. it has to be freshly created by you per day. see https://ulogs.org/created/ulog-utopian
