Byteball Wallet Issues | Did it happen to you?

Update 16 July - Attestation rewards well received

Hi there! I am not so fond of Airdops but for the Byteball official airdrop I thought I should make an exception. I translated big part of it in Greek, and having seen the efforts of the team and its possibilities, I wanted to further use their wallet (for which I had read so many interesting things about its functionality!)

So, to make story short; I have tried to get the airdrop approximately 48 hours ago. It did not work. This is what I did and the errors I got. If the same things happened to you or if you have any solutions, you can let me know. This could be useful to other users and/or to the developers of Byteballs.

Thanks in advance.

Wallet Update

I had already installed the Byteball Wallet (because of my previous translation, I needed to have it to check a few things on my own)

After the Airdrop Announcement (and since I had no funds in it), I updated my wallet to the new version.

My Wallet Version: v2.4.0

Procedures

As @punqtured mentioned in the Official announcement, you need to find someone to lend you some Bytes to be able to proceed to the airdrop. I did find a good friend to lend me the amount (Thank you @ruth-girl!) and then I did the process described in the Official Byteball Airdrop to Steemians

Screen shots of the process

I have kept screen shots of everything (because, oh silly me, I wanted to create a tutorial for not-so experienced users)
(But @trumpman the screen shots did help because I can reproduce the steps : ))

Bot activation

After a user downloads the wallet, the steem attestation bot needs to be activated in order to confirm the identity of the user (to pair the wallet with the steem username)

When I activated the bot, it took a (very looooong) while but it finally sent the message for the steemconnect verification, which I successfully did.

Problem 1 - Payment would not go through

After confirmation of the steem identity, the amount should be paid for the attestation to move forward. I did click on 'send' but I received this message.

Could not send payment [internal] response timeout

I let it rest for the night and I tried again next morning.

Still same message, and always get the [Syncing] sign ..... (sigh)

Problem 2 - I tried to sign the message (to get 80% of the reward) but still failed

I never just quit. I explore all possible options and always try to find a solution. There is always one. Even if the solution is 'write a post about it; someone will help out!' :P

This time I decided to go the other way, to proceed with signing the message (as I was prompted to do). I would only get 80% of the reward, but so what? I would be able to write the tutorial and return the borrowed amount back to Ruth <3

I clicked on the Request to sign [...] and it appeared as if it was signed
(Unfortunately no screen shot for that - you will see the reason in a bit)

I gave it some time, and still nothing. I tried to visit history, revisited the bot but nothing.

Problem 3 - I requested to pay the amount again

I thought that since more than a day had passed, if I requested to pay the amount, it would be possible.

It was not.

Problem 4 - No access to the Bots

Today when I opened the wallet, I noticed that there is not bot connection?

Is it something I did? Is it a situation for all wallets? How is it resolved?

Problem 6 - Not able to full back up the wallet?

Another solution I came up with was to back up my wallet and then re-download it.
Check here more info about backing up the byteball wallet

But I got the message that I had no permission to save in the Byteball location. Why is this? Should I select a different location? It got me confused and I did not continue.

Quick Synopsis for you who do not wish to read the whole post

  1. I failed to send the payment [error: Could not send payment [internal] response timeout]
  2. I tried to sign the message; this way I would not pay and get only 80% of the reward. No bytes were received
  3. Today's error [internal] connection closed
  4. Issue when trying to perform a full back up. Is it the wallet or me?

Thank you in advance for reading and for dropping an idea or two : )

Let me know if you had any similar issues with the wallet

A few extra ideas

When you are in the chat with a bot, it would be great if there was a help section (with commands etc)

It would be also nice if there was/is a support to handle questions / queries / issues

The Byteball network had issues caused by a new feature (use of unconfirmed inputs) which was released with the latest version. The chief developer has already implemented a solution to the problem, he posted this on our slack:
‘most of the network is back online, steem attestations will resume after 12pm CET, will prepare a new release for full wallets’

@cryptkeeper thank you for your update.
I have just tested again and it seems that the payment has gone through and rewards await confirmation.
I have seen that you have been extremely helpful and I warmly thank you!
(I did not even think of joining slack -- how silly of me)

Update: if you run a full wallet, an update to version 2.4.1 is mandatory:
https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases

Thank you! I have a light wallet.
(I saw the announcement on twitter a few moments ago. Perhaps Byteball could create an official account here as well? ☺)

Good idea and I will forward this to our team. For now, @punqtured is our Byteball representative here!
Update:
I've just heard that the official account will be activated soon!

This is amazing!
I will be looking forward to welcome @byteball official :) Is this it?
(We had the pleasure to welcome University of Nicosia's official account a few days ago)

Regarding your backup issues: it's totally normal that you don't have sufficient access rights to write to your program folder. That's a restriction of the windows operating system (and others as well) for security reasons. I must admit that it's not user friendly to open the save dialog in this folder, should be in the user's data folder instead.

Thank you! Perhaps some more info could be included in the wiki, what do you think?

I think it's better to improve the whole process for the user instead.

I have similar problem,
I've installed wallet successfully and got my reward, but when i try to send someone bytes as a referral it just shows me error [internal] connection closed! And my wallet keeps syncing non-stop so I can't do any transaction.
Someone told me that is because of new features and because it went viral on Steem so fast, but I have no idea how to solve it....

I've searched the internet and found an advice like you should change the other hub, but I don't know what does it mean.

Also, I'm getting this

Does anybody knows what's the problem? :'(

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
This message appeared to my wallet also today when I tried (again) to pay the attestation fee
I have received no rewards (for the record)
I will probably message someone responsible tomorrow (today it is Sunday so maybe it is not a good idea) - perhaps this message and my screenshots offer valuable information about system errors
Thanks again!

You're welcome,
If you find out some information how to solve this problem, it would be nice to notify us here, wish you luck :)

Hi!
It seems that my payment was received (by Byteball)
No reward yet, but I suppose its on its way
You can check it out to see if everything is ok on your end too :)

My walet is ok now, it does not syncing all the time, but I didn't receive any referral award and I know that some people downloaded wallet from my link.
So many mysteries with this Byteball lol :')

My guess is that even though they might have downloaded the wallet from your link, they have not used the attestation bot yet (thus have not received any rewards)
In my case, I sent to a friend the fees amount and in a few minutes we both had the reward, so it surely works in that way.

I hope so, thanks Katerina:)

sadly i can't help it worked well to me. i guess it's either down cause of the amount of people trying or the amount that they would give finished. Have you tried to check their twitter or ask the person responsible via discord. He is in the utopian.io discord channel

Thank you!
It helps to know that it did work for others :)

I'll just wait for a couple of days... weeks ... :)

Same here, I didn't even get the message from the attestation bot. But last night I heard someone in @surpassinggoogle's discord say that servers had encountered more traffic than they could handle(or something like that) but also that they're working on it and that soon things should go smoothly.

Thanks for the insight!
It would nice then if they had a message (in the wallet) informing the users :)

Very true indeed :)

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 22 SBD worth and should receive 159 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.
