Based on the number of Steemit users and page views by country, South Korea is second only to the United States. (See: https://hypestat.com/info/steemit.com)

Also, the South Korean Steemians have contributed quite a lot of dApp to the STEEM blockchain. (Steemhunt, Tasteem, etc.)

Over the past year, we will see the structural changes in the KR Steemit community from a multitude of perspectives.

This will help you to gain insight into the KR community in a small way, and to help you judge on your own standards what will be more important to the growth of the entire Steemit community(or STEEM Blockchain).

The analysis period is from December 1, 2017 to December 1, 2018.

Aim of Analysis

  1. Differentiated features of KR community

  2. Structural changes in the KR community

① The author reward weight taken by the KR community in the entire Steemit
② Number of postings and authors in the KR community
③ Latest posting category change trend in KR Community
※ The core of this post is 2) -③

  3. Conclusion

1) Differentiated features of KR community

700.png

The greatest feature of the KR community is the high number of comments per post. Over the past year, the KR community has posted an average of 9.89 comments, exactly three times the overall Steemit's 3.32. This is an evidence that communication between users is active.

701.png

Although there are many serious feedbacks about the posting content, it is not uncommon to emphasize that it is a short greeting reply because of the nature of the oriental culture that respects courtesy.

702.png

However, in the last three months, the KR community's average number of comments per post has declined considerably to 6.25. This seems to be caused by various causes such as the influence of the HF20, the decrease in the number of actual users and increased use of auto curation bots.

703.png

However, overall Steemit's average number of comments per post during the last three months is similar to the one year average. Therefore, these reductions are seen as a problem of the KR community itself.

2) Structural changes in the KR community

① The author reward weight taken by the KR community in the entire Steemit

704.png

The KR community's share of the author reward of the entire Steemit community is 4.2% per year.
After taking up to 6% at the beginning of the year, it is gradually declining.

705.png

The average for the last three months is 3.7%, which is increasing slightly.

Of course, there are quite a few articles that do not register kr tags, so it is reasonable to see the above values as a minimum value.

② Number of postings and authors in the KR community

706.png

The number of postings and authors of KR community is on a declining trend.

707.png

However, during the last three months the decline was gradual, with a particularly small decrease in the number of authors.

708.png

Steemit's overall and KR community's postings are similar in trajectory.

709.png

This is similar in comparison to the number of authors.

Therefore, the issue of the number of KR community postings and the number of authors is not a problem for the KR community itself, but rather a problem for the entire Steemit unit.

710.png

Interestingly, the number of postings per author of the KR community since HF20 has been reduced by about 20% and is maintained at 1.4 lines. This probably indicates that there were quite a few spam posts until just before HF20.

711.png

HF20 has shown a remarkable effect in reducing postings per author.

The KR community has already made its own efforts to reduce spam, so the decline is not great, but Steemit's overall posting per author has plummeted.

★ ③ Latest posting category change trend in KR Community

The chart below shows the trends in author rewards for posts written in six STEEM dApp related categories that are commonly used in the KR community. The dApp is steemmonsters, tasteem, tripsteem, manamine, artisteem, actifit. Other than this, they are rarely used in the KR community at this time.

713.png

Green shaded areas represent the percentage of author rewards covered by the six dApp related categories. It has come up to a considerable level and is on an increasing trend.

719.png

You can see more detail in this separate chart above.

714.png

The postings of the six dApp related categories have an author reward of 26% on average for three months and an average of 28% since HF20.

715.png

The average of the past one month has reached 32%, and even on November 30th, it took a whopping 57%.

This day was a very high reward day for the steemmonsters, tasteem, artisteem categories.

Let's look at each of the six dApp's author reward ratio trends briefly.

716.png

717.png

718.png

Recently, the KR community is undergoing major changes in terms of posting categories.

3) Conclusion

① The initial PoB(Proof of Brain) value of Steemit was significantly faded

2)-① showed that the author rewards ratio that the KR community took from all Steemit decreased slowly to about 4% and did not increase.

Nevertheless, as in 2) -②, the number of postings and authors were reduced, so we were able to maintain some level of compensation.

But now the KR Community is facing a whole new transformation.

As shown in 2)-③, we have taken a considerable weight of author rewards through posts with six dApp related categories (32% a month, 28% after HF20, up to 57% a day)

Many users also delegate significant SP to dApps.

Therefore, traditional category posts that were expected to benefit from the PoB(Proof of Brain) distribution method would rather reduce real compensation. (eg investment, development, analysis, writing, coin, art, philosophy, etc.)

Indeed, rather than distinguishing Steemit from the STEEM blockchain in the popularity of cryptocurrency from late last year to early this year, Steemit's "Money Talks" banner came in a lot of users.

This distribution, also called Proof of Brain (PoB), was a major factor in making the expected return on the STEEM block chain relatively high.

Even when the mining profitability of PoW and PoS coins is low, the PoB distribution system was a big factor that brought in investment to Steem.

Now that the mining profitability of PoW and PoS coins is going down to the basement through the bottom, even the PoB distribution system can not expect good returns.

In addition, the value of the PoB distribution system, which Steemit initially emphasized, has declined, as a considerable number of author rewards have gone into dApps related category posts.

② It is necessary to watch the mid-term period whether SMT will recover above the faded Steemit value.

Of course, there are a lot of good things for user retention, expansion, and more interesting STEEM ecosystem that these various STEEM dApps come out and the related category posts increase.

In addition, the smooth transition to the SMT system and the emergence of killer dApp may lead more loyal users into the STEEM block chain.

In the process, if the loyal real user inflows are increasing again, there will be room to improve the value of the entire STEEM block chain, as the various dApps on the STEEM blockchain offset the PoB value of the now somewhat damaged Steemit. In particular, it would be more beneficial if a long-lasting killer dApp emerged outside of Steemit.

However, in the process of waiting for the SMT to settle, Steemit, who stressed the PoB distribution system, may lose many early users who think Steemit and STEEM block chains are virtually identical. So far, there is a lot of data that represents these signs.

The KR community is also losing quite a bit of its existing users due to the slump in the cryptocurrency market and the weakening of the PoB distribution scheme that Steemit emphasized.

The KR community has been active with an average of three times more replies than Steemit, but it has been reduced to less than two-fold, and all the issues Steemit faces are mostly the same in the KR community.

It seems that investors who are expecting the implementation of the SMT system currently remain in the KR community.

As seen in recent declines in EOS and Ethereum, there is no guarantee that the establishment of the SMT system will necessarily increase the value of STEEM.

Japan's Big-camera (or Yodobashi camera) has grown into a large-scale retail store with many categories, but the basic value of camera specialty stores has been developed without compromising.

Although there is a trade-off, I think it's better to have the STEEM blockchain grow dApps without damaging Steemit as much as possible.

SMT system, what role this will play in the long term is worth noting.

Thank you.

Hi @lostmine27, very impressive analysis of the KR community! Seems like the KR community is doing pretty well, and the comparisons with all Steem give a great context to your results! I haven't heard of manamine before - what is it about and is there an English description available?

While I personally like your work very much, the topic unfortunately does not fit very well with the scope of Utopian, where analyses (in the best case) can help the owner of the open source project in decision making. Based on the current Utopian guidelines, "analyses of social and behavioural changes of a specific group involved in the project will be not be considered for potential reward." For an analysis of all Steem, the KR community is a very vital part, but still a subgroup, and it's not an open source project on its own. If you have questions on the scope of Utopian, feel free to contact us/me on Discord!
Nevertheless, I'm sure the KR community benefits a lot from your work and I'm looking forward to the seconds part!

Dear @crokkon,

I wanted to reflect on the entire STEEM through the past and present of the KR community, as I saw that the KR community had the Testbed character of STEEM.

However, I fully understand your decision that this report is closer to analyzing a particular subgroup of STEEM in accordance with the guidelines.

I will think more about Utopian's scope and find ideas to try new things.

Thank you. Have a good time.

Thank you for your review, @crokkon! Keep up the good work!
