Translation report Dutch team - Utopian/DaVinci - Weeks 3 and 4

in #utopian-io5 years ago

In my last report, I mentioned that I wanted to write a weekly report from then on.
Then we heard the message that translators contributions had to be lowered a bit, from one a day max. to three a week. This took some pressure from me in regards to workload.
Besides this, I have also started to translate the Node.js project, and have taken on a few other tasks that will probably keep me busy for some time. So at this stage, a weekly report didn't seem necessary.

This report is for October 16th until the 31st

The Translations

The two translators working on projects were:
@anouk.nox and @altrosa

I started translating Node.js but that is for @minersean's report.
@minersean is now our second LM and he does an awesome job.

Personally, I think that our active team works really well together.

@altrosa:

As mentioned in my report before this one: the translation for Quasar Framework has finished.

She also translated WarriorJS parts 2, 3, 4 and 5. The project is now finished.
Personally, I enjoyed reading and learning more about this. Now all I need to do is find the time to play!

Description on Crowdin:

This is the project to translate the website of GDevelop. GDevelop is an open-source game creation software, allowing to make games for the web (HTML5), iOS, Android or desktop. No coding skills are required: it is easy to use and powerful enough for advanced users.

Initially, this was supposed to be @anouk.nox's only translation for this project, because I had another translator in mind for this project. However, I changed my mind because I think she could best finish what she started. And I thought she would enjoy a project about gaming. 😘

She also translated the 4th part of JabRef

And Steemit part 2.

She then decided to start on the translation for Joomla!
However, this will be the first and last contribution for Joomla!
I only discovered after a few emails back and forth between their team and me, that they already had their own translation team for the Dutch translations.

Conclusion:

The translation teams will only work on three translations per translator each week.
I think this is a good thing. I have worked as a translator and editor for a long time, and my personal experience is that when you are translating a lot, like 5 days a week or more, you tend to get sloppy.
Not always, but sometimes. That sometimes is enough for me to believe that 'breaks in between translations' is a good thing.

I have recently started translating Node.js, and I wouldn't want to translate more than three to four thousand words each week. I enjoy it now, it shouldn't become a task.
I have to say, I really enjoyed the last two weeks. For me, it was the perfect balance between proofreading and translating. And besides this, I also want to have time for Steemit.

After this week, I will leave my tasks to @minersean for about 9-10 days.
I will be visiting Steemfest, and we leave home on Monday, to get the plane from Belfast to Krakow on Tuesday.

Excellent report. Well explained. It's good to see the project you are working on and the Dutch team LM's and TR's activities for the past two weeks. Thumbs up!
