RepeateMe- An Intuitive Task Managing App

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

I could still remember a friend who once said his bad habit was being forgetful of any planned task or event. And we lived in an area where people refer related cases to spiritual problem. Yes you guessed right! They said my friend needs deliverance ☹️.

Not being able to remember things could be of different reasons and his case might be lack of sleep or stress and anxiety.

Technology is here and has improved to solve lots of real life issues. When I was younger, I remember using a non smart phone with an inbuilt alarm. We all know the function of an alarm. Currently, there are even more advanced mobile applications that serves as alarms/reminders.

Today, I will be introducing to you RepeatMe a task managing project which is currently available on Android OS. If you know anyone who usually forgets to do something at the right time? This article is meant for them.

Introduction

okko.png

RepeatMe is an open source project created by Samarth Desai. His aim is to solve problem of humans not remembering to do what they ought to do at the right time.
RepeatMe is an intuitive task managing app that accepts short notes and time settings as an input and alerts the users to do what was accepted in the note depending on the time settings.

RepeatMe is a lightweight app with clean interface. It's currently in it's version 1.2.4 and supports 4.1 and up android version. It will only consume ~9mb on your android Rom after installation. Get in on Google PlayStore

Features

  • Ability to add 30 characters note
  • Weekly, number and date repeat type
  • Customize task with different colors

RepeatMe Vs Android inbuilt Reminder

The first image is repeatme while the second screenshot is the inbuilt reminder on my android 0. From the two images, repeatme interface looks clean with options to pick color and time. While the other image doesn't have the option to assign color to different tasks. There is an option on repeatme that allows you to decide how you want task to be repeated. And they are:

    • Weekly: This option lets you pick between weekdays. The task will only be repeated on the days of the week picked.
I use this option during school days. I set same/different task from mondays to fridays. It skips saturdays and sundays.
    • Number: With this option, you can set the number of days to be skipped before it reminds you of your tasks. e.g., when you input 2days, then it reminds you your task once in every 2days.
    • Date: This option lets you pick days from calendar.

Interface difference

I created three tasks on both applications to see how the display would look like. The first image is a screenshot from repeatme while the other one is from the inbuilt android reminder.

Operation Test

I was just wondering. What will happen when two tasks are set with same time? So i made two tasks: Check the doors and Turn off the machines. They both triggered at once with no issue. That's amazing.

Upcoming Feature

The only important option missing, is the ability to edit a task. I noticed this after i mistakenly assigned a date to a task. I had to delete it and created another one.
I was about creating a feature request on gitHub when i saw a similar one here. I will be waiting for the next release.

Summary

I personally prefer repeatme because of the color advantage. I can easily identify a specific task with the color assigned to it.
Thank you all for reading. I believe you've read one or two reasons why you should use repeatme.

Hello, @rufans!

Thank you for this contribution. Your post is comprehensive, informative and well-illustrated with quality screenshots. Keep up the good work.

On the content side, you did a good job. The post is editorial, and contains valuable information about the project. I like all the information about your personal experience of using this tool, and I certainly enjoyed the comparison with the inbuilt Android reminder software. However, I must say that I wanted to read a bit more about your personal views regarding the project and its features.

Once again, there were issues of style and proofreading, but not to the level where it hurt the reading experience. In conclusion, this is a nice and succinct review of the project, and I enjoyed reading your work.

I look forward to your next contribution.
